I take your point but I would observe that many pilots appear to think their aircraft are very heavy, it is rare to see an aircraft pushed anywhere. The classic turn left on landing would in most cases clear the runway without using any power. After that it is about arguing (hopefully not necessary ...

I'll admit to using it a few times (we've got some high ground and low level airways up here. I must admit I've never really understood it. If I cross 2 hundred feet below the airways (whilst on the appropriate pressure setting) its OK. If I cross exactly on the base of the airway it is also OK??? A...

I've sent in my tuppence worth. Hopefully it will help. for the first consultation I used the CAA's online questionairre and was very unhappy at the way in which it was nearly impossible to disagree. This time Ive followed your advice and sent an email submission. It seems such a shame that the CAA ...

Acting reasonably within the law. This is the basic tenent that should be applied. Locally we had a woman golfer who was at least partially blinded when she hit a stone with her club. She sued the golf club. She lost on the grounds that complete removal of all the possible stones on a golf course wa...

well best of luck arrivisto.

Once you have your test pilot lined up you can discuss this theory with him and create a test programme to prove it. I wish you luck.

During takeoff the wing is insufficiently energised until 'lift off' speed is achieved - certainly true. Vortex generators however do not increase the lift coefficient of an aerofoil by any real amount which would be needed to lift off at the same AOA but lower speed, instead they extend the relatio...

It's worth remembering that the main purpose of these things is to keep the boundary layer energised. Now with a half decent design the boundary layer only starts to detach at high angles of attack. So for an aircraft like the 701 which is designed to achieve a high angle of attack (using slats), th...

The Volmer is at Aboyne under rebuild. reputedly it was like all volmers a bit of a dog in terms of getting off the water. I can tell you from experience it is heavy! There was a Kingfisher advertised at Cumbernauld - again needing work. You should be able to find the owneer via GINFO. Again they ar...

To bring things a little way from a particular hobby horse. If your noise sensitive field has a four mile final then this 'feature' by itself will generate issues of speed differential. The shorter the final the less this would matter. A shorter final would also allow people to actually see what was...

Simple air pressure. Pump up the cylinder to pressurised the can and the fuel quietly flows into the tank. Not that easy to do it for a part can and you have to be careful to make sure that the pump sits properly on the jerry can spout.

But still pretty easy....

I must admit I was surprised (and disappointed) there was nothing on 'our' site.

Perhaps he can help drag the snail mail types into the 21st century?

Anyhow welcome Peter!

They were advertised by a chap on Afors last year (somewhat cheaper I seem to remember!). Anyhow I'l pleased with mine, not the most robust bit of kit but so, so much easier than lifting cans.

New CEO?

Found elsewhere - surely not true???? The Light Aircraft Association - formerly the PFA - has appointed Peter Harvey as its new CEO, to replace Graham Newby, who announced last year that he would be standing down from the post when a suitable replacement could be found. Roger Hopkinson, LAA Chairman...

Rebushing is pretty easy. I have an old Matco tailwheel. Whilst they are cheap to buy getting spares is not easy. The pivot had got so slack that something had to be done. Although small machine shops are getting rare any half decent hobbyist with a lathe can also do it. My machine shop made up a su...
