I think the sole owner has those privileges under a different ORS number. they subsequently broadened it to include group ownership, but still haven't relaxed the owner-maintenance restriction for paid instruction or testing. At least, I haven't found any change on that. Some suggest that you cover ...

The current situation says you will have to pay to get the JAR licence, and may have to pay again to convert it to an EASA one. The possible advantage is that it may avoid some delay when the EASA licences are being issued. There's a whole document at the CAA site, far too long a URL, so you can use...

I've never quite appreciated why member services couldn't include free ads, but apparently there's a useful £1,500 or so towards the annual magazine costs. If nothing else, members will maybe turn to the forum more often as they keep getting 'already sold' messages when they try buying things from t...

I have a lot of sympathy for Jim's situation. Until a month ago they had several events being organised, including an aviation camp, a young aviators day, flying CHIPS participants, as well as the numbers of Devon Strut fly-ins. Now any involving flying the public are suspended, and they don't know ...

That looks very promising, Jonathan. It is certainly intuitive to use, and produces a traditional plog with all the steps visible. Obviously it's the 'light' version so does have some limitations which other schemes may offer free, but it uses the familiar charts and draws on current Notams, which w...

Certainly very user friendly. It doesn't seem to bother about terrain clearance for the plog, and with no provision for a note of MSA, that's an area which could catch someone out - though you should see the hills flying VFR.

The 5-letter navigation points are handy too.

That's a bit far for an evening. There's a very active Christchurch branch of the RAeS - I wonder if they would know of local light aircraft flyers. I don't know the farm strips in the area though. If you can get a look at Lockyers Guide there could be some listed in there. Maybe if you ask Penny in...

I guess things are changing all the time, but I thought the last mention of the LAPL medical was going to require certain examinations, rather than an informed look at your GP medical records. If that's the case, they are likely to charge something, but it was also biannually from some age (?55 or 6...

Tom, I assume you are addressing me on this point, and if I have misinterpreted your sentiment, I apologise. I felt your final comment showed a lack of concern for the loss of chances that some disadvantaged youngsters have enjoyed up to now. I don't know how else the comment was intended - maybe yo...

fortunately it doesn't really matter. If you think this, you're either unbelievably selfish or you've not been involved in some of the special days put on for disadvantaged youngsters and adults to have a flight. That's your loss, but also theirs now. LAA exists primarily to permit ordinary folk to...

It ain't necessarily so... I think it all depends on whether you fly an EASA aircraft or not, and whether you want to fly outside the UK. Section 1.4 last paragraph says you can carry on flying your non-EASA aircraft (ie Annex II) on a national licence (eg NPPL or UK PPL). However, it will be UK fly...

The concern has been raised that if the LAA allows the continuation of Strut organised flying events where members of the public are given flights, and if an accident happens, and if it is ...

There's two weeks for the paralympics too, but I can't see a good reason for the extra time.

Brian, thanks for the correction on non-LAA members doing training courses. I'm glad to hear that is happening and I should take the opportunity of congratulating you on the success of these courses. Quite by chance (honestly!) I happened to see some interesting statistics on the EAA Young Eagles an...

That is refreshing - the FAA see NPPL flying hours as valid for its own licences (tickets). In EASA-land, it seems to depend on which piece of paper you are holding and/or what aircraft you are flying.
