Re: On the pull?

Good thoughts but I'd have to move the pull point on the winch 6 times to get her out. It would be more effort than pulling her manually especially as there's no suitable attachment point outside and the car has no towball. Now about those hoverboards they had in Back to the Future.....

Re: On the pull?

I'm glad it's not me being a wimp! I had an electric pusher made out of a mobility scooter but it lacked both shove and life as the Chinese speed controller lasted as long as a Chinese take away! I'll play with the idea of a sit on mower but so far 3 sources have failed! Bad end of the year I guess....

On the pull?

I'm about to start using a sit on mower as a tug to move my Auster. Snags are, it's a small doorway to the hangar and the aircraft is on trolleys. So straps, A frame or 2 leg A frame and let the U?C form the third leg? Thoughts, advice, experiences? I can't really practice outside as the runway is g...

Re: Converted Auto Engines for permit aircraft

I received this back from my friend in the USA
I'm familiar with the Corvair / flat 6 cylinder air cooled. Thy run 100hp to about 130hp depending on the Cubes. They are a good "experimental" aircraft engine with the "5th bearing" and the new manufacture forged cranks.

Re: Converted Auto Engines for permit aircraft

I played around with motorbike engines for microlights a while back and they always came out a lot heavier than you would expect despite being all aluminium. Subaru conversions appear to have died the death over here despite being a flat 4. The Honda conversion does not have a good reputation either...

Is it just me or do other people think the required login to get a form 214 is not fit for purpose? You have to have the most complex login with upper case, lower case, numbers, special characters and there is no way of staying logged in despite there being a box for it. I tried for a new password t...

Re: Auster on an LAA permit?

Where abouts are you? I have an Auster on a permit. I got her as a barn find and we could drink beer and talk Austers!

Re: Engineering work

I had the line boring done on my Gypsy major Hoyt big ends and their work was spot on. As above you need to give them the data and they are cautious about liability They measured a crank for me and when it was out of spec refused to charge for that bit I would heartily recommend them.

Icom Service

Just a few words to say I was delighted with the service from Icom UK today. I had a gremlin yesterday and emailed them. At 9 am today I got a phone call from their engineering dept and a few good leads to fixing it. In the end it turned out o be a dirty BNC plug ;-)

Re: Throat microphone

The snag with throat mics is they feel like you are being strangled all the time. People often leave them loose and press them against their neck when talking.

A friend of mine was flying a passenger the other day who had a protective case for his smart phone. The snag is this was held shut with a magnet. So you've worked out the rest of it haven't you! So watch out for this pitfall and keep items off the top off the panel.

3 by 3?

You've all heard of 4 by 4 but here's a 3 by 3 request ;- Does anyone have access to a 3 inch ID tyre that's 3 inches wide? I would like to fit the inflatable option tailwheel on my Auster as the taxiway is as rough as a Bear's !!! I have the correct hub but the only tyre I can find is extremely exp...

Chocks

Can anyone recommend a decent set of chocks please. I've been using some blocks of timber up to now but having done a few engine tweaks Amy rode over them yesterday with the brakes on.
I always fancied a set like they had in Chicken run with Toblerone on the front!

Re: Size matters!

I bought a Saab 9-3 estate in the end. Electric everything and weighs as much as a hangar I think! This reminds me of when I were a lad, I had to wear what I could get to fit regardless of fashion or as I remember school rules ;-)
