Size matters!

Nothing to do with aircraft directly other than it will be my support vehicle but I am after an estate car. The problem is at 6 feet 5 I have the same problem with cars as I do with aircraft, namely getting a big enough cockpit! So any tall people out there can recommend an estate suitable for tall ...

Moving House....

Has anyone on here ever moved house and told the CAA? I'm still trying to get them to accept my change of address from 9 months ago. Is this a record?

Auster Spinners

I have a brand new Auster spinner for the Fairey Read type prop. These come in two parts and the front skull type section is prone to failure. Before I fit it I was thinking of taking a mould of the front section so it would be possible to make a new one in either grp or carbon fibre. Before I do so...

Re: Who owns the air?

Look at Southend. They have very few movements per day but look at the airspace they managed to get. Someone compared their airspace par movement with Gatwicks. As I recall they had something like 200 times the area per flight.

BTH mags

In the centre of the points mech there is a small retaining bolt. Now I'm getting conflicting views on whether it's necessary to retorque this every 5 hours or so.
So if any Gipsy Major owners would care to cast their vote I'd be grateful.

Re: Illegal use of a 25 kz Radio

I sold my aged Narco for the cost of an Icom A6E and spent an hour wiring it in. Much better audio and although adding memories takes a while to master it is a delight to use. £250 is not a huge outlay folks so go the civil disobedience route if you want but I don't think you'll get a great following.

Size matters

Being a little en the large size, I'm 6 feet 5, I need a larger than average cockpit! Up to now I've flown an Auster but want to move on. Anyone out there can recommend a permit aircraft with a big cockpit?

Re: IC A6E 8.33 kHz HANDHELD

As far as I am aware, and I fitted an A6E to my Auster, it should just be plug and play with your old one. The only trap is it won't like 12v so you need to use their adapter to 8.5. £30 from Icom or £3 if you can solder 4 wires Ebay has suitable regulators.

Wet mags

I have an Auster with BTH mags. When she was under covers the mags never got wet but I've had a couple of wet mag events since going in a hangar. Since moving up to Lincolnshire she's wetted her mags twice. A go with heat gun doesn't clear it but I am loath to take them off and bring them home again...

Re: Moving House

Later I rang them. I got through to licencing and got a recorded message "We are experiencing high volumes of traffic." After 3 of those it said goodbye and cut me off. Oddly the registration department were excellent, 3 days to return the change of document. Oh and I realised there is no legal requ...

I tried to tell the CAA my new address the other day. Has anyone ever succeeded? It would be easier to start flying again and get a new one! Mogas and dope

Has anyone had adverse reactions if they spill mogas when refilling? We've had problems on a friends aircraft around the filler cap area due to fuel spillage. The other wing has no problems as he uses avgas that side. We tried a good clean, a rough up with a wire brush and fresh cellulose. This was ...
