Re: Minimum oil level?

OK thanks, thats what we do ATM anyway, just wondered if letting it go lower than that as it approaches oil change would be ok, sound like not really.

Re: Annual Flight Test for Permit ??

Sorry Ian, I don't see how a pilot setting the new permit VNE is of any use at all. Why do it at all in that case? A VNE is set for an aircraft by engineers and designers and an arbitrary VNE set by a pilot is just therefore a number and having it put on the permit as a new limitation won't help a ...

Minimum oil level?

We operate a 180 Lycoming in our RV, normally we keep the oil up at 6L we are just comming up to the 50 hr check and obviously do not want to put oil in unnecessarily, the book says minimum 2! I would not really want to go THAT low, but what would be a sensible minimum?

Re: Annual Flight Test for Permit ??

The VNE dive I hear some say ...well that's another issue, particularly in old, relatively slow aeroplanes. It represents almost a 40% increase in speed over what you do in normal operation in something like a two seat Jodel 95kt cruise, 138kt VNE)and demands some effort to achieve. Personally I do...

Surveys on ipad

Am I the only one that has a problem with LAA surveys on the ipad, had this with the instrument flying one and now the same with the one on insurance - loads the first bit but then will not scroll or allow me to fill anything in?

Re: Tracey Curtis-Taylor

In a way it is strange that people think this discussion should not extend here but it is ok for Pprune and Flyer, AFAIK Pprune and Flyer have not given any awards whearas the LAA has and so actually more appropriate here.

Re: Bringing an aircraft from Spain

Paul,

Had the VAT already been paid on the one you brought back? The one we are looking at apparently has not had VAT paid so presumably that will need paying if we bring it into the UK?

Re: Bringing an aircraft from Spain

Thanks,

Yes i have heard the horror stories of aircraft from the USA and why we are not even looking there! The inspector we would hope to,send down is VERY knowledgable on Vans aircraft and is also who we would have sorting it onto the LAA register ao hopefully no problems there.

Re: Bringing an aircraft from Spain

If we buy it that is pretty much the plan ATM, and hopefully continue flying it like that until the winter. Does anyone know what the VAT on import situation is for this?

Re: Bringing an aircraft from Spain

P5151, thanks for that. It is a type on the LAA list and we have a suitable inspector who is very familiar with type. Assuming it fits the bill, ideally we would get an annual done there and fly it back then continue to fly it on the Spanish register through the summer, getting it onto the LAA regis...

Bringing an aircraft from Spain

Just looking at an aircraft in Spain - it does not have a current annual and wondering if anyone has experience here and what might be involved in getting it to the UK.

Instrument backup

Has anyone tried this? A cheap backup with IFR for LAA aircraft coming in. Certainly independent from anything that would already be installed!
(Not sure it would be accepted!)
