As with most things, use the KISS principle - Keep It Simple St---d! Personally, I wouldn't use a design that meant a relay coil was energised to keep the electrics off. Switches should always be much more reliable than relays (less moving parts etc. etc.).

I posted this on another BB: What about designing a box without the distraction of a moving map display (lots of them already on the market) and other flight planning gizmos? Something along the lines of a very simple display (or three LEDs) showing Green, Amber or Red status. Green: clear of CAS Am...

A friend of mine with a C90 has the oil return arrangement you describe. Hasn't had any issues with it and works as advertised.

Rob, Sometimes it is easier to solder a small "pig tail" wire to the screen and then use a crimp on the end of the pig tail. I would also recommend using heat shrink sleeving around the point the screening exits the outer insulation. Lastly, go carefully when soldering to the screen. Sometimes the h...

Customised code will always create long-term maintenance issues and expense. Would be a good idea to move away from customisation if at all possible.

Mode S is so popular in the Netherlands!

From our European correspondant (via a VPAC mailshot): Quote: "VFR traffic under the Schiphol TMA had been instructed to switch off transponders because of constant TCAS alerts, but recently the Dutch government decreed that all traffic above 800 feet should switch on Mode S everywhere. On the first...

Mike, The simplest trial would be to make up a headphone style jack plug (1/4" dia) and connect it to your passenger's headset jack. I am making lots of assumptions here, but you get the idea. May be you use different connectors etc. but that would be the simplist way of getting audio out of your ra...

Rogcal, You are slightly missing the point! It is also interference to the terrestrial ground network that makes cellphone use in the air a no no. This is an extract from an OFCOM report on cellphone use in airliners and why special equipment (located in the airliner) must be used. "Mobile handsets ...

If you go to the website (www.activitae.com) from your PC you can try the service using the phone emulator. Click on "see it in action now" link which is situated just to the left of the first phone picture. Gives you an idea of how to navigate around the system without spending money on GPRS data d...

Why not consider restructuring the LAA BB to be similar to the shortwingpiper.org website?
http://www.shortwingpipers.org/

Out of their 14 section BB only two are "Member Only" sections.
