This was mentioned some time ago, but this is the official promulgation. All aircraft (with very few exceptions) need a 406MHz ELT /PLB for flying in France from 1st Jan 09.

Molex UK are based in Farnham, Surrey. It may be worth asking them (or their UK distributors) if they have any in local stock. Alternatively, RS Components do have them but they are part of their "extended" range. Have you tried calling some avionics shops? They may have some in their "box of bits"....
