Importing a kit from the USA

Hi, I am seeking some advice with importing a kit (not Vans) from the USA.The process seems quite a minefield. Has anyone got any recommendations for a Shipping/handling agent who are used to this sort of thing? What other 'gotcha's can I expect to come across?..I am particularly thinking of the dea...

Re: 8.33hz radios

I am still of the opinion that the Dec 31st 2017 deadline will be deferred. Nothing really to base this on but just a feeling in my water following on from the fiasco and extended deadlines that we had for Mode S transponders.
I am keeping my 8.33khz radio funds in my pocket as long as I can!

Re: Airspace app wins NATS approval

Best to download it using Wi-Fi then it won't eat into your monthly data allowance. Works fine on my Galaxy Ace 3

It is probably a case of my old eyes failing me but since the recent 'upgrade'to the LAA site I can't seem to find Worksheets to download.
Can someone tell me how to find them please....I have looked and looked!!

Re: Please can you ask for a Traffic Service

Hi John, it is almost impossible to get a 'Traffic Service' anywhere in the UK at weekends. In the week sometimes it is possible occasionally but you cannot rely on getting it. We need to ditch this absolutely useless 'Basic service' rubbish and go back to realignment with the rest of Europe with FI...

Re: Falcon Gauge electric gyro needs servicing

Falcon instruments are basically chinese junk so if it was me I wouldn't waste any more money on it. Just throw it away and buy a good quality replacement.

Re: Engine Hours

I think the LAA requirement is still the same as it was a couple of years ago. That is that a full engine rev check of fuel flow via the mechanical pump is required on initial permit of an aircraft. As said, it is rather nerve racking standing alongside an aircraft with a fuel tube going into a meas...

Re: Engine Hours

Very much a moot point, but all Aircraft Log books are supposed to record flight time....

Re: Cheap GPS Updates

Nick, It is $29.99 for a single Navigation update for a Garmin 111 Pilot.(you don't need the 'Bundle') The next update is due 10th Jan 2013. Updates are every 28days. All stilll available for the Garmin 111. My point being why pay £20 for a copied reformatted version when you can have the genuine Je...

Re: Cheap GPS Updates

Nick,

The site to go to is:-

https://fly.garmin.com/fly-garmin/

You need to register yourself and your unit and then it is straightfroward. I have a 2012 database in my Garmin 111 Pilot.

Re: UK Licence with Medical Declaration

You are may be right Brian, it probably will all sort itself out.
The fact remains though that the vast majority of us will be poorer in pocket(in my case by £73) just to stay the same as we are currently, privilegies wise, for no gain at all in anything else whatsoever!!

Re: Microlight or Class A ?

Also don't forget as a microlight you have an aircraft empty weight limit of 250kg and mauw of 450kg. So if your build is heavy and takes it over the 250kg empty you will have no option but to register it as a Group A. If you do register it ' Group A' the mauw will be whatever the LAA deem that part...

Re: Cheap GPS Updates

I assume you are aware that you can still update a Garmin 111 Pilot with the correct Jeppersen database from Garmin themselves, albeit for an expensive $49.95 US
