At the recent Air Warfare Centre's RPAS Symposium at Shrivenham, 2Excel Aviation (a parent company of the "Blades" Aerobatic Team) announced some work they were doing with Selex-Galileo on a "sense and avoid" solution. Whilst designed for unmanned system, the cross-over to GA was obvious. They have ...

As a GA pilot I really cannot get too bothered about this. Most of the airspace is above FL100 - so unless you're carrying oxygen then this probably won't worry you! For the SFC-FL125 airspace you can get a Danger Area Crossing Service (DACS) from Aberporth; in fact, they would probably be only too ...

Roy Maybe it's lucky for you that I didn't know about the O-290D/O-290-3 interchangeability or the starter modification or I may well have bought her! She was a lovely wee beestie and I remember I was flying BBMF at the time and her paint job was done by some of the chaps at Coningsby (so I was told...

Roy I nearly bought G-ANIE from a Gent at Duxford - around 2003. The guy's name was Steve Partridge (I think). I remember because he was ex Air Force. She definately had invasion stripes and this picture was on G-INFO at the time. http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/GImages/G-ANIE001.jpg Nice aircraft, as I s...

John Someone in QQ is telling porkies as Mode C will give a height read-out for transponder equipped GA and military RADARs (and some civvy) have non-cooperative height finding capabilities - normally +/- 3,000ft or so depending on the range. Anyway, there's only NOTAMed non-transponding traffic abo...

I also can't understand why NATS cannot use their RADAR data - unless they want to charge the CAA (that would make me chuckle!). I used to sit on the UK Airprox Board as a Military Member and we would use RADAR data some time after the event to piece together what had happened - the primary radar re...

Mike A word of warning on some Lycoming engined AOP5s - they use the O-290-3 which I believe was a converted engine from a generator and water pump from WWII. Some spares can be quite scarce and it does not have an electric start. I also believe it is similar to the O-290C and not the more prevalent...

Hi Will I am one of the owners of G-AVOH at Hinton; she's a D62B 100hp Condor. I am 6ft 1in with a 44inch chest and I just fit in. You need to be careful with W&B if, like me, you weigh in at around 100kgs (about 15 and a half stone in old money). I have to take out the rather nice leather seat base...

My thoughts as a serving member of HMForces also accord Stuart's. I would not wish this for my wife, children and family if I had fallen during my 2 Afghan tours (1 in the air and 1 on the ground). Should that day ever come for me I would hope that my wife's "Elizabeth's Cross" would afford her all ...
