Protecting steel tube during construction?

Any tips on the best way to stop rust during construction? I could oil or paint it, but that will need removing each time I wish to tack on the next cross member, fitting or whatever. I've only built wooden airframes in the past, where metal fittings were made and protected immediately. So what do y...

Thanks Brian,

I have to give them a call anyway regarding a new project, so I'll check then. I'll get back to you if Febuary's mag doesn't turn up though.

Cheers, Ivan

I have always run VW's on and have always run them on 20/50 mineral oil which seems the ideal choice of many.

Typical! No annual rally since I converted my T31. Now I've had to sell it ... there's going to be one  I've been promised I can still fly it occassionally, so I may see if I can borrow it for the rally, otherwise I'll just have to come by car  I'm glad to see the rally back though! Ivan

What is required to become an inspector?

I'm just wondering what is required? I've just been made redundant and have thought about offering my services to do simple wood repairs and fabric covering. Obviously, getting things signed off would be a pain, and might make it impractical for anything more than a bit of casual work. However, if i...

My T31 (now gone :-( ) Had a VW1834 with Leburg and a C150. It didn't miss a beat, was easy to start, and gave as much power as any VW I've ever flown behind. Great combination!

TW metals of Southampton have proved to be the cheapest in my searches. A full sheet of what you want would be around ?50 if they can tag it on to another import. Whether they'd have a small piece kicking around though? May be worth a try? I don't have the number on me, but I've got it from director...

Butyrate tends to be lighter even with many coats, as most of the "dope" evaporates off. With poly, it virtually all sticks, so whilst fewer coats are needed, they are heavier.
