Re: ATSIN 171

I've just received email from CAA saying Mode A/C will be switched off at end of 2011. I thought we would be able to continue using mode A/C if already fitted or did I miss something. Perhaps CAA did not hear of the difficulties at Schipol I think that this was only intended for Mode S ground stati...

Nigel Good news indeed, but I notice that the joining instructions pointed to by the link in your email still refers to: "An exemption to rule 14 (2) of the Rules of the Air Regulations 2007 has been approved and pilots may land with other aircraft on the runway provided that; " Do you know for sur...

Mike, the comparison with forming an IFR approach stream off stacks is not really valid as it is being done by one man with a PPI view of the situation and aeroplanes of uniform performance ( for the most part) . When you compare the Pitsford and Malmesbury situations, there is another factor to con...

In the old rallies, you had parallel grass / hard runways. Lets assume the grass is on the left due to circuit direction. SIMPLES..slow traffic takes the grass, faster traffic overtakes on the right and lands on the tarmac. That's not how we operated at the old rallies, the grass and hard runways w...

No logo on the PDF for me, have you refreshed your page Rod.

Sywell have had access to our "in house" procedures in formulating their document. One Major difference in philosophy is that we published the procedures via AIC for the benefit of the entire aviation community and not just participants.

I just can't believe what I'm reading here. The LAA should be running an 'Airside' course? I know there are ambulance chasers but can anyone tell me how many incidents have happened where people have come into contact with aircraft in the aircraft park over the last 10 years. If as I believe the an...

2. The thorny business of airside access was put to bed, finally, by our own CEO who stated quite categorically that he would not have the LAA linked in any way to the airside operations at Sywell in September. This is so that in the unlikely event of a tragedy, the ambulance chasing lawyers won't ...

“Flying machine or glider shall not land on a runway at an aerodrome if there are other aircraft on the runway” That cannot be correct. As an ex glider pilot at a hill site, the wind stops, everybody lands. I have participated in 30 + gliders landing on the same patch of grass when the wind stopped...

They could acheive this by allocating a booking number rather than a slot.

Hi Rob. I'm no expert on this topic but the picture I see is that if CAA expect 500 plus aircraft at an event, they get a bit twitchy and want to see what they deem as control. In Rally times, that consisted of full ATC guys, recorded RT, and the AIC. The slot time procedure is a far less expensive...
