There is an interesting thread on the Flyer Forum about this. Somebody sensible there suggests removal of legacy radio nav kit is actually a step forward. But only on the condition that 'modern' nav aids(come on GPS is getting on to be 20 years old now) are properly adopted, and that regulations and...

I agree with what Steve B and Steve N said. I don't mind paying to train and test using nav aids, if there are nav aids. I do mind paying if all I'm officially supposed to do is read a map, that CAA comment makes me cross. In any case, I know GPS is used in real life. Come on CAA, isn't Flight Safet...

Steve I was wondering the same about PPL training, having just spent weeks working out what I need to do for upgrade from NPPL to JAR PPL. Doing VOR/NDB type radio nav is really all there is that matters in my case, so what happens in 2011 then? At the risk of thread drift, the whole of GA training ...

Graham I am surprised no one has yet mentioned the recent engine theft from Croft Farm, Defford. My hanger is virtually between there and Otherton, I hope they get caught before doing our airfield. Engine engraving has been mentioned at our strut, but I don't think that will be much of a deterrent i...

Flew into Sywell on Sunday, everything I used or saw worked well so congratulations to all the organisers and attendees. We had the reservoir racetrack to ourselves and I even met up with LAA royalty (including Brian and Jon), fancy that! There is only really one question about the 2010 rally - is t...

Nigel I agree that letter is unclear, it would be much more meaningful if the details of the case in question were given. I'm sure that could be done without infringing the rights and privacy of those in question. Incidentally, I spoke to the CAA this week about group ownership restrictions on paid-...

Remunerated Training in Permit Aircraft

I need to do just a few hours training and exams in my permit aircraft to upgrade my NPPL(A) to JAR PPL. (So I can leave these sunny shores and visit the lands of the baguette, chips and mayonnaise, and fancy lager). AIC W 071/2009 (13th August 09) clearly states how general exemptions to the ANO wo...

Not that it will help at all, but I would suggest it was significantly underweighed before.

Putting in a Red Top battery will save 1/2 Kg.

Hoovering out the fuselage and wings might save 50g....

How much do other 912 Rans typically weigh?

Great work, John and Mike, very well done.

Any chance of getting NPPL's allowed into France on an interim basis, now you are on a roll?

Cheers

The Cambrai cover I bought is excellent. I'm still newly finding neat features several months on from first fitting them, which is evidence that these guys really know what they are doing. They are quite expensive, but still easily the best value for money I could have spent. You won't be disappoint...

Rob I have an MGL electronic compass. It uses a remote magnetic sensor, built into a neat box not a lot bigger than a 9-way D-type shell. The connection between the remote sensor and the instrument is a 'RCA' phono cable, supplied in the kit. I believe it is a digital bus multi-drop interface, so al...

John Ranier is a good guy, he is probably right. If you do have a ground problem - the sort defined as a change in resistance in the return path through the engine/airframe/battery lead, then I don't think you're going to see that on a 'scope. You will see spikes though, if there are any. Simon C ~~...

John My guess is there is a earth loop between the RDAC and your one-wire sensors. I don't think it is likely you are getting interference from your other sensors. The test of powering the RDAC out of the plane and with special wiring from a battery will isolate the earth-loop path. At the least, th...

John

Do the out-of-plane test, and tell us what you see (ref my earlier post of Saturday).

At that point we'll know which hammer you should use.
