Re: Skyforce Locator

Richard,

Many thanks indeed for responding so promptly to my request. I doubt that I shall be travelling as far afield as you have in the past with the Locator but I'll do my best to keep her interested within the UK!

Kind regards,

John.

Skyforce Locator

Good home available in an Evans VP-1 if anyone has an old Skyforce Locator GPS add-on that they no longer use and would be willing to sell to back up my current paper map and Mk 1 eyeball? (Modestly priced moving map devices are impossible to read in bright sunlight in an open cockpit). John (07811 ...

Re: vw 1834 oil pressure

Someone once told me that one should have at least 10 psi per thousand revs. For what it's worth, my recently rebuilt (crank grind, new bearings and oil pump) 1834 runs at 50 psi @ 3,000 rpm on 20/50 oil with no oil cooler. The Great Plains VW engine assembly manual suggests: Minimum oil pressure at...

Re: VW running rich

Hi Sam, If your carb is a Solex 32 PHN, I have a 24 page VW manual for it dating from 1962 which I would be very happy to photocopy for you. I run such a carb in my Evans VP-1 and, if it would help, I can tell you the sizes of the various jets. The carbs are rare as hen's teeth but I did manage to p...

"Hear, hear!" to all the above. I posted the renewal form last Friday afternoon and the new Permit dropped through my letterbox on Tuesday morning.

You could try Farnell Electronics. Their website lists a truly bewildering selection of Molex connectors plus related bits and pieces.

When I had a technical problem with my Leburg installation last year, Henry suggested I contact John Winslow ([email protected]). I didn't need to in the end but John might know something.

Garmin 55 AVD

Has anyone an old and dusty but still working Garmin 55 AVD that they wish to part with for a modest consideration? I'm not worried if the internal lithium battery has died.

Bother!

Many thanks indeed for mentioning that, Roger. I might have wasted a lot of effort repeating the exercise. When I have some spare time, I might instead try and copy the Fournier RF4 design of exhaust which will actually be easier to fabricate.

Great photo, Ian! The Mohlenkamp system comprises 34mm mild or stainless steel headers with 2 into 1s on each side of the engine just behind the rocker boxes, and then straight 35mm tailpipes running down each side of the fuselage (and these can be made of aluminium). The ends of the tailpipes are c...

According to A. Graham Bell (I thought he invented the telephone) in his book Performance Tuning in Theory and Practice, the formula to work out the optimum length, P, in inches of a single pipe per cylinder, = ((850 x ED)/rpm) - 3, where ED = 180 degrees plus the number of degrees the exhaust valve...

Some bedtime reading that you might find helpful is the "VW Aero Assembly Manual" available from Great Plains in the US for around $10 plus postage - www.greatplainsas.com/pg8.html. Although it includes info on a Great Plains beefed up front crankshaft bearing modification, the majority of the manua...
