Re: Newbie to LAA Rally
Hi Steve the Rally will be a definite source of information about RV building, not a likely source. Visit the Vans/GlosterAirparts stand A8/9 in Marquee A to meet owners/builders and get info on procedures and tools. Also, get out on the field to inspect the different models and talk to their owners...

Re: Aircraft Weighing and Form LAA/WB
John There are four conditions where you must show the CG is within limits, namely 121 lb pilot and no passenger 121 lb pilot and 189 lb passenger 189 lb pilot and no passenger 189 lb pilot and 189 lb passenger So four calculations are needed and you submit the two extremes, most forward and most re...

Re: Aircraft Weighing and Form LAA/WB
ps This form is only used for the initial weight and balance calculations, and to subsequent equipment changes. I'm about to add a two channel autopilot, this is too small a weight change to need a complete re-weigh but as there are many components at many different places I have submitted the calcu...

Re: Aircraft Weighing and Form LAA/WB
John the table at the top of page 2 is to record the maximum weights, arms, and moments of the variable loads so you can use them to calculate the most forward and rearward CG conditions in the table at the bottom of page 2. This calculation defines the max and min weight of the pilot (121-189 lbs) ...

Re: Maps
Call me cautious, but I like to have hard copies of a much wider area than just the SD route. Also, I'm not certain of the exact routing there or back, might be north or south of the Alps. And it's hard to print off maps when down route.

This year's RV fly-out in May is to Croatia, and I'll be continuing to Montenegro. So I'll need maps for France, Germany, Austria, Italy, possibly Switzerland, Slovenia, Croatia, and Montenegro. (Slovenia and Montenegro could be printed off from SkyDemon as only a small area of these will be visited...

Re: Overseas Aircraft Moving
I basically have the same question, need to move an RV-6 from the Netherlands to the UK by road. Which company would be able to do that. I was looking for the advertisement in the magazine too where an RV-6A was rolled from a container... Can't find it anymore in the last three issues. Anyone with o...

I don't think it works like that. You have to put in a proposal and they will look at it. Try asking for the paperwork needed for a new type approval and go through that. If you are the first, be prepared for a lot of work.

Re: Thread sealant for NPT aluminium pipe thread fittings.
Ian Fuel Lube is good for fuel, oil, and brake fluid. The large tin from LAS would do a couple of 747s, get the 5oz tube as you only want to smear it on the fitting. Use a cocktail stick to apply it, scraping it level with the thread but no more. Sadly, I use new sticks as we don't drink cocktails a...

Re: Thread sealant for NPT aluminium pipe thread fittings.
There is a leakage path at the tip of the male thread through NPT fittings no matter how tight you screw them in, so a sealant is always necessary. Don't use PTFE tape on fuel lines as swarfe can clog things downline. I use Fuel Lube from LAS, but tere are probably suitable automotive products.

Re: LAA Permit aircraft
Carl I've just tried searching, it's not easy. On the website go to Aircraft & Technical, Data Library, Plans Built Aircraft. Then in the top line click on "approved aircraft". There is also a list of aircraft approved to move from a CofA to a Permit in TL1-20 in Aircraft and Technical, Data Library...

Re: Insurance recommendations?
Hi Matthew third party insurance is mandatory, hull insurance is optional and up to you to decide whether to risk it. Many owners are changing to Visicover, their quotes are usually much cheaper. They are web based and you can quickly and easily tailor the cover to your requirements. I use them, the...
