Back in the late 60's an uncle of mine gave me his Peel P50 to use as a runabout in London.
Embarrassment factor was 10 out of 10 but it was a real manx car!

Nigel, Foggy, Ian, Andrew et al. Thanks for you thoughts and suggestions and yes I agree that with enough heads around the table we could come up with something that would suit most people and more importantly our good friends at LAA engineering. For me, automotive and off the shelf has got to be th...

Is there an alternative to mags or Leburg for homebuilts?
With the Leburg system seemingly now out of reach and mags (in particular the Lucas SR4) not being everyone's cup of tea what alternatives are there for those utilising the ubiquitous VW as a power source. One of the ideas buzzing around in my head is two distributors mounted where the mags are moun...

OK ,OK I give in, I'll join the discussion. Vespas (specially the GS 180) are a real man's scooter and Lambrettas are for tarts to ride around on. The Rover 216 coupe is a beast and tamed only by hard men. The Ariel Pixie! Stuart, you poser. Four acres of grass to cut and can't be bothered wi...

Rob, I think another reason that the 1834cc conversion is predominant is that at one time it was the only one easily available here. I recall back in the early 90's when the 1600cc in the Fenland Strut Veep burnt a hole in a piston crown, we decided to upgrade as part of the rebuild and all we could...

I'm no guru in respect of VW aero engines but being around them for a few decades has given me a certain amount of skill and knowledge and one thing that still baffles me is that despite the majority having SR4 mags and a variety of carb types fitted, the majority start, run and perform with no prob...

Rob. The general idea is to ease starting on an engine fitted with a carb that doesn't have an accelerator pump with which to prime the engine. As you know the Stromberg 150 relies on a choke and loads of pull throughs of the prop before sufficient mixture has been drawn into the combustion chambers...

John, I experimented with long tubes extending down each side of the fuselage on my Luton Minor and the noise levels decreased significantly, along with the power output which suffered by about 100 to 150 rpm which was no fun in a Minor with a 1600 VW up front. I removed them after a few weeks and g...

VW engines with priming device fitted to inlet manifolds
Has anyone got a VW engine installed in their a/c that has a priming device fitted to the inlet manifolds? The type of device I'm specifically interested in is the SAF push type drain valve that allows a syringe full of fuel to be squirted directly into the manifold as part of the starting procedure...

Now for a confession. I one-time owned an Ariel Pixie!!!!!!! Read the above and laughed my head off until I remembered that I used to ride around the streets of South London on a Cyclemaster. Getting back on thread, the LAA site is on the whole OK and I'd hate to see any massive remodelling of it. ...
