Re: Stromberg NA-S3B carb parts

Many thanks Tony and I'd be grateful for any snippets of information! The A-80 does have different pistons(heavier, unfortunately),5 rings, oil squirt holes in con rods, higher permissible rpms & so on but is otherwise the same as the A-65. I'd be happy with an A-65/75, but an A-80 is what I've ende...

Thread sealant for NPT aluminium pipe thread fittings.

Any recommendations for the most suitable sealant for alum. NPT pipe thread brake fittings? There seem to be dozens of Loctite and Permatex products, but which might be best for my application? I know that, ideally, sealant shouldn't be needed, but more viewing of the web has sown doubts about that ...

Stromberg NA-S3B carb parts

Could anyone point me in the right direction to find a definitive list of parts that apply to my Stromberg NA-S3B carburettor, to match it to my Continental A-80. Fuel feed is gravity only. (The engine came with a long since out of production fuel injection system, for which parts and servicing are ...

Re: Duralac Green jointing compound

Thanks Harry, but JC5A is very pricey for me and I've seen some less than favourable comments on the web. Just checked the LAS web page and the JC5A + applicator & including VAT, but not delivery etc., is £67.22. Until I find some information on using the new green stuff, I may have to stay with the...

Duralac Green jointing compound

Has anyone tried the new Chromate free Duralac Green? I'd be using it mainly to prevent rusting and galvanic corrosion of the bolts in a wood airframe. From the data sheets, it looks as though it may perform better than the original Duralac, but I wonder if its superior adhesion may make it impossib...

Re: Carbon Deposit Removal

Or maybe this might be worth investigating? ....Vapor blast cabinet was set running today. For those who don't know, this is the Rolls Royce of blasting , ( used by many of the F1 teams) to clean components .It is very different to Sand or soda blasting ,as it uses fluid to encapsulate the medium, a...

Re: Carbon Deposit Removal

Wish I'd known about this before spending weeks working my fingers to the bone trying with limited success to remove carbon deposits, without doing any damage. I ended up paying £100 to have the parts soda blasted, to get rid of the last remnants.

Re: History Channel

Could it have been one of the Martin Baker types? MB-3 or MB-5? Think the -3 had a Sabre engine ( 24 cyl, of course. Double "flat" H layout). The impressive MB-5 had a Griffon. Each had contra rotating props., so might be a solution. Have a look at : http://www.defensemedianetwork.com/stories/martin...

Re: Postage stamp sized piece of 6swg or 8 swg S514

Richard,

I may have some 1/8" thick S514, but no paperwork.

I could cut you out a small piece and post it to you, if that would be of any use to you.

Re: Protecting prop bolts with a wooden propeller.

Can't offer any reliable suggestions as to how to deal with this problem. I have to find the best solution to protecting the bolts and fittings on the wings I am assembling; the drawings require the bolts to be a hand push fit, which they are, but I suspect that if the fit is tight enough most of an...

Filling & finishing small GRP moulded parts

Could anyone recommend the best and lightest method of filling the outer surface "weave" on some small epoxy/GRP fairings I have just made? I assume that either glass or phenolic( which I already have ) micro-balloons in epoxy, applied thinly and sanded down carefully, would be a good option. I used...

Re: Cleveland Brake pistons:O ring groove dimensions

Many thanks Paul and I had considered using compressed air ( carefully ... ) to persuade the piston out of the cylinder, and will use this method. Having rechecked all the dimensions of the groove for the o ring, today, I think that the groove should be about 6 thou deeper, to equal the recommended ...

Cleveland Brake pistons:O ring groove dimensions

I have an old set of Cleveland brake callipers for my Boredom Fighter project and since they didn't have pistons with them, when I bought them, I have turned some new pistons on my lathe. The cylinders are believed to be Cleveland part number 061-00601. The pistons are 1.500”OD & about 0.5”deep and ...
