Re: Confused a little
Good afternoon new member (sorry, I don't know your name), I'm not sure from your post whether you're asking if the Velocity is on the LAA list of approved types or whether you're asking if it's practicable to operate a foreign registered Velocity in UK? I'm sure you'll get an answer once your quest...

Re: PFA/LAA Magazines
Hi John, The Heritage Working Group of the Association is trying to collect a copy of each magazine to have them scanned so that all members can access them. I suspect we're mssing quite a few from the 1970s. I'll ask Penny Sharpe to contact you to let you know which years we don't yet have if you'r...

Re: New LAA member
Good afternoon James, A warm welcome to the LAA. The RV aircaft offer a big bang for your buck and most have been built by first time builders. That said, the -10 is a big project. I suggest you start by signing up for one of the LAA's metalwork courses - it's been said that the hardest part of any ...

CHIRP
The boss of CHIRP gave a presentation on their work to the Gloster Strut last night - a most worthwhile talk if your Strut is looking for an interesting and relevant speaker. One matter which came to light is that several members were no longer getting CHIRP which is now distributed via email Air Co...

When our vacuum horizon failed for the second time we ditched it and fitted a Dynon horizon which also shows heading, airspeed, slip etc.
We were able to remove vacuum pipe, regulator and pipework and have been delighted with the result.
Best wishes,
Harry Hopkins

A licensed engineer warned me never to use PTFE tape in a fuel system; the fuel attacks the tape, turning it into sludge.

Good evening Johannes, There's something of the chicken and egg about getting acceptance of a new design because until after the successful flight test of the first UK specimen it won't appear on our approved list. However, there is a technical leaflet on the process at: http://www.lightaircraftasso...

Ian, If you've allowed your currency to lapse (i.e. not done the requisite 12 hours in the last 2 years) you'll need to take a GFT with an approved examiner - I've used the CFI of our local club. If it's merely out of currency for the last 90 days you just need a QFI check flight to re-establish cur...

Re: Workshop – how big?
Hello Nick, It is indeed a chicken and egg situation; the RVs have 2 piece wings, so you're working on a semi span, whereas the Jodels have a one piece wing and need a really long workshop. With the RV fuselage, it's handy to be able to get around each end of the structure during the build but it's ...

Rally Judging
Contrary to the item in the last issue of Light Aviation, the closing time to enter your aircraft to be judged for a Rally trophy is 13.00. Please pass this around to any friend or colleague who you think might be entering this year.
Many thanks,
Harry Hopkins
