Re: Luciole, FIXED LEADING EDGE SLAT, reduce stall speed ?

I've seen 65kph quoted -- that's 35.09kt: isn't that 35 within the limits of ASI accuracy!? Perhaps you should talk to Richard Teverson (though his luciole.co.uk website seems not to be working at the moment).

Re: Luciole, FIXED LEADING EDGE SLAT, reduce stall speed ?

How far off is the stall speed? I don't have the LAA article to hand, but I thought it was very close to 35kt. Would it not be worth considering vortex generators before attempting to add slats?

Re: Modifying Leburg.

I thought that a Megajolt system, apart from having to program it (and I'm sure someone somewhere has done what you need!), was about a simple as it got... However, I've just seen that Sky-craft say "Hot News! We are now able to adjust the timing curve [of the Leburg system] to suit various other 2 ...

Re: Flying in Italy

I go to Italy quite often, and speak a little Italian, but I've only flown GA as a passenger...and I don't think the guy made any calls -- it was a quiet day at the strip(!) However, I know a couple of Italian pilots, so I can see what I can dig out from them. Or, if you go to the Flyer forum, track...

Re: Light Aviation magazine letters page

Letters are fine. But to be honest the last thing I would like to see in the LAA mag is seven pages of them. If we want debate, we have this forum*; we can save the trees for something else. So why not post your letters here, and let's have a discussion about it...? (*Though it's a shame this forum ...

Re: How to become an LAA Inspector?

given the amount of Inspectors we already have I doubt gaining another one is a pressing issue for him. Possibly -- but given the demographic of the LAA there is likely to be churn (a polite way of saying they die off!), plus inspectors are not evenly spread around the country (especially taking in...

Re: Members' Survey

I was slightly flummoxed by that one too... Hinton doesn't have an ICAO designator, but has a lot of aviation-related activity, several runways, a maintenance company, fuel pumps...so strip didn't seem quite right. I plumped for local aerodrome...

Re: Italian NPPL

I looked into a parallel situation for an Italian friend who moved here and had an Italian microlight licence, and wanted to fly here (and ultimately fly non-microlights). The solution seemed to be to go via a LAPL issued in Italy -- the LAPL had only just come out when we looked into this, and the ...

Re: Licences and medicals

While it is in some ways a pity that the rest of Europe couldn't be persuaded to adopt the NPPL (not for want of trying, I believe), which seems a good system for leisure flying, it seems to me that the LAPL is a pretty good compromise alternative -- reduced medical requirements (both in terms of st...

Have you tried any of the guys who fabricate titanium exhaust systems for cars/bikes? If they don't have the quality you need, perhaps they could point you to a supplier.

I could give the compressor a good home -- but don't want to start a fight over it! (I'm in Oxford if that's geographically convenient.)

Re: VW revmaster

You could try Barry Smith -- there's not much he doesn't know about VWs and he was very helpful when I contacted him about a problem with our engine. His contact details are on his website http://www.acro.co.uk/html/acro_contact.htm.

Hinged inspection panel -- where can we get one from?

Our aircraft has a 5 inch diameter circular hinged inspection panel, the kind with a central push button to open them. Or at least it should do -- the latching mechanism has parted company and made a break for freedom, and the hatch is currently taped up. Any ideas where we can buy these from? The u...

Re: corvair

There was an article in the LAA mag a couple of (or more) years back about someone running a Corvair -- I'm afraid I can't remember more than that, though presumably, as Steve suggests, Engineering should have relevant information. If you look under "Corvair" on the Panther site, there is informatio...
