Re: Rivet gun choices

Still no joy. LAS didn't have any idea about 'used' ones and I've not had a reply to the last 2 questions I sent them, so, I'm still in the market if anyone wants to clear their garage!

Re: Rivet gun choices

Ahhh, I missed the rally. Just got out of hospital after having 3 vertebrae welded and pinned together.

Thanks, guys.

Wanted. Rivetting tools. Cardiff

Hello. I'm looking for a 2X gun, snaps, countersinks etc to start me on my way. I've got several non-structural jobs to do plus an ali bodied Austin Seven that looks odd with a few hundred pop rivets in it. If anyone has some used tools then I'd be grateful for a chance to buy them. Thanks Rob, near...

Re: Rivet gun choices

Thanks, Harry and Rob. If I can't find a 'used' toolkit then I'll try them for new stuff. Ideally, for cost reasons, a used set would be needed since I'm going to need snaps, countersinks etc as well as the gun. Soon adds up! I've got a few feelers out at the local college, the airport and some adds...

Rivet gun choices

Probably sounds like a silly post but after having riveted lots of aircraft over the years, always using guns borrowed for the purpose, I find myself wondering which gun to buy. I assume that the cheapo sub-£30 Ebay 'chisel guns' lack the slow initial touch and will only go at full wallop. If I want...

Re: Leburg Ignition - Battery Replacement

FWIW, I prime it with 4 blades with the throttle open and then it fires, usually with the first light tug (Not "SWING") of the next blade with the throttle set for about 600 rpm idle. I don't have a primer so I drain the carb float bowl and lines before filling with new fuel and that seems to make a...

Re: New SSDR regulation

http://library.propdesigner.co.uk/html/gottingen_535_characteristics.html Profile for Gottingen 535. From Google/Wiki... At sea level and at 15 °C, air has a density of approximately 1.225 kg/m3 (0.001225 g/cm3, 0.0023769 slugs/ft3) according to ISA (International Standard Atmosphere). Reynolds numb...

Re: New SSDR regulation

John. There are some grandfather rights for aircraft up to 390kg MTOW so long as they were homebuilt (etc etc) so mine would be 'in' on that score but the stall speed is an issue that the CAA are already looking into. Difficult to prove until the aircraft has flown so there may be need of some sort ...

ARV Super 2 at Oshkosh. Photos found

I found a couple of photos from around 1989 of the ARV trip to Oshkosh. Does anyone want a copy for posterity? I know I have some more yet to find and am happy to pass any on. There are some brochures and assorted other bits stuffed away in the loft, too.

Re: New SSDR regulation

I've just been informed that changing to SSDR is not possible unless the aircraft was previously within the Microlight category and that if it was under the LAA umbrella then it cannot move to SSDR. That's scuppered my plan, then.

Time to close the workshop door again. :(

Re: New SSDR regulation

Last permit renewal flight in 2003 ended up in a field full of hay bales. Scratch one engine and one undercarriage leg! If The FRED was permitted to 'go SSDR' then I assume I could fly it quite soon but it might be that the regs would require it to be finished to 'LAA spec' before it can be test flo...

Re: New SSDR regulation

Sorry to be a bit dim, but... ...Can a Fred, stalls @ 40 mph (according to spec sheet), weighing 354 MTOW, built and flown in the 1980s now be eligible for SSDR? I have a photo of it showing 28kts at some point whilst still airborne so I was also wondering how one converts from indicated to calibrat...

Re: New SSDR regulation

Fingers crossed!

I've just been dumped from the 757/767 fleet onto the 737. I need something to cheer me up.
