Re: Why do so many VP-1's fall into disuse?
Michael , going out of Permit and gathering dust in the corner of a hangar isn't just confined to VP's . An old friend of mine had two beautiful Luton Minors , when he stopped flying , he was forced to give them away. I've seen it happen to Turbulents , D9's , Taylor-Mono's ....... Truth is , these ...

Re: Why do so many VP-1's fall into disuse?
Blimey Michael,,, :D ..That must've taken all evening to write . Mind you , as a trad./vintage homebuilt freak myself , it's good to see a few decent sized missives on my 'favourite' subject . But two of your points are quite relevant . I also queried with Barry Smith about the amount of material le...

Re: Why do so many VP-1's fall into disuse?
So I'm keen to hear from anyone who has owned a VP-1 and then decided to give up on flying it (especially those who have allowed their aircraft to fall into disuse rather than sell it on) as to their experience. If there's something fundamentally wrong about the VP-1 from most pilots' perspectives ...

Re: Why do so many VP-1's fall into disuse?
Bloody 'ell Nic... (dazzled by Mr Martyr's wisdom :D ) Not many people can say that has happened to 'em.......... Also , @Mike N. you're dead right mate . It is , "flying , but not as we know it". Think of those poor flying club johnnies , who probably know nothing of LAA activities , ...

Re: Why do so many VP-1's fall into disuse?
Michael , you may wish to clarify this . Either Alan has misinterpreted , or I have . Where you write, "patience is never my problem" . To me , that means you're a pretty patient man As you aren't particularly patient, During my build , I discovered that I had more patience than I ever , ever realis...

OK,,,I'm here now , so you can all relax ... :D   So I'm keen to hear from anyone who has owned a VP-1 and then decided to give up But , hang on , if Michael only wants to hear from guys who gave up , then that rules me out , doesn't it ?... :D . Well tough , I'll give my 2p worth anyway ...

David , You sound like the sort of guy who should be getting on the blower to Chief Insp. Craigie .
With the record amount of PtF types now on LAA’s books , surely one or two more Inspectors wouldn’t go amiss ...

Re: Heads up, Article on Feb 20 mag on ANR headsets
It was only when I saw Ian's post on here that I was nudged into reading the article . Not being in the market for a new headset , I didn't attach much priority to it . That was a mistake on my part . It is quite clear that Ian is a massively knowledgeable and experienced man in his field and my att...

Re: Open cockpit flying during winter
^^^Like^^^Like^^^Like... :D Great post there Nick . It really has brightened up a cold January day . Always good to see guys flying , 'just for the hell of it' . Don't apologise for the backing music either . OK ,,,I'll admit that the VW in full song is a very , very satisfying sound . But AC-DC in ...

Re: Open cockpit flying during winter
A Yorkshire man would just about be thinking of putting long trousers on and buttoning up his polo shirt at this time of year. A polo shirt Alan ???? :D That's a bit 'Lembit Opik' isn't it ,,,,[remember him ? ] But I wouldn't expect you rufty tufty Yorkshire lads to be wearing anything more than a ...

Re: Open cockpit flying during winter
Hi Ed . You must be a 'proper pilot' then... 8) I find it a bit of a catch-22 , because if I was to get too togged up , then I would have trouble fitting in G-EVPIs cockpit . So apart from a thermal t-shirt , jumper and lined fleece as upper garments , plus the leather flying hat , I cannot pad out ...

Re: LAA MOD Downloads
Hey Bill . Am I not correct in thinking that if you go to the 'Aircraft & Technical' sidebar on the homepage , then once you've clicked on to it , there is a section entitled , 'Modifying & Repairing' an aircraft . The links are in blue where you can click on to the relevant mods I believe . Edited ...

Re: LAA Starts 2020 with Record Fleet Size and Membership.
Surprised that this post hasn't generated any responses thus far . So here goes . All those different groups of figures radiate positivity in my books . What I find amazing , is that 2,750 aeroplanes are now 'in Permit'. That's fantastic ! Had I been asked to guess that , prior to seeing it in print...

Re: VW Full Flow Oil Filtration
Please excuse the delay in reply . Your engine is probably fully up and running now , but as a VW 1834cc builder/pilot , I couldn't resist my 2p's worth . I couldn't quite make out what you meant was "tapped/plugged by the previous owner" , and also don't think I'm conversant with the mod. for "blan...

Even though this is a pretty quiet forum , you do kind of miss it when it's not here .
Also want to see if my thumbnail pic. is still in the top RH corner ..
Edit: Yes it is . [ OK , I'm a saddo]
