Re: ALL MEMBERS ! Please fill out those proxy forms..!!

Thread drift coming up..... I have been doing some research into the origins of the Bill Woodhams Trophy. I see it was given by the family of the late Bill Woodhams who had been Director of Operations at the PFA rallies at Sywell in the 1970s . He had apparently died testing an aircraft. I have nev...

Re: ALL MEMBERS ! Please fill out those proxy forms..!!

The prospect of this dreary affair taking up most of the AGM, when we should be addressing matters that advance light aviation, makes me reconsider my intended effort to fly to Sywell on 21 October. I can just send a proxy instead and do something more constructive with my Sunday. Please don't. We'...

For the record, the LAA has made a financial contribution to the 'fighting fund'.

Re: ALL MEMBERS ! Please fill out those proxy forms..!!

I also have a question about votes and their counting. What is to prevent someone voting by proxy and raising a hand at the AGM? Not that I am suggesting anyone would do this but what are the mechanisms behind counting and ensuring that only members are in the room? There will be measures in place ...

Re: ALL MEMBERS ! Please fill out those proxy forms..!!

I feel the Strut aren't high enough on the agenda for the LAA. The quarterly LAA/STRUT meetings were unanimously voted out a few years ago as not fit for purpose, with the instigator to come back to the LAA with an alternative. He has yet to do so. How can the LAA rank and file connect if their Str...

Boeing. They are not only a major sponsor of TCT's trip but also put a lot of money into the (LAA supported) Build A Plane projects..... ....Are Boeing threatening to withdraw funding for the Build-A-Plane project if these Motions do not pass? Andy, The Boeing involvement in RAeS Build A Plane proj...

Re: ALL MEMBERS ! Please fill out those proxy forms..!!

It’s time to look at ourselves. Our numbers are declining as the older members die out, and our average age of 60 is increasing by nearly a year every year. We are almost all men. This matter has done our standing serious damage amongst outsiders. It’s no wonder we’re seen as aviation’s old boys cl...

Re: LAA website search

Sorry about that. It seems some Google upgrades are no longer compatible with our search facility. We're working to fix this, as part of a bigger overhaul of the website, but with most of our team fully occupied with Rally preparation and aircraft engineering issues, this may take a bit of time. In ...

Flying Flea

A lovely piece with a very young Bill Cole and a young Julian Pettifer on the HM290 G-AXPG. At the time, PFA Chief Engineer John Walker did not like it so Bill got it cleared via ARB/CAA with help from Harold Best Deveraux and Darryl Stinton. Luckily Bill didn’t hold it against us and he remains an ...

Licensing. Some Good News from the CAA.

The CAA has issued an exemption which will allow, until 7th April 2019, a pilot to fly a UK registered aeroplane or helicopter with an EASA Certificate of Airworthiness or EASA Permit to Fly (with the privileges of a LAPL) on their UK PPL or NPPL. This particularly allows pilots with a UK national l...

More 8.33kHz Radio Funding from the CAA

SOME GOOD NEWS FROM THE CAA ! Just received this: "After much negotiation with the EU, we have been granted an amendment to our contract that allows us to accept more 8.33 kHz funding claims. This is the fourth tranche period and will close on 30th September 2018. As before, all eligible purchases f...

The last two months we elected to allocate the space to the important information for Rotax engine users.

I can confirm Malcolm is beavering away at his desk right now on the next instalment of Safety Spot :)

Re: Permit renewal on-line?

Comments all noted and we're looking at this as part of our current Engineering review. It's not quite as straightforward as it first looks, as we have to develop a system that meets CAA audit requirements and can be accessed by members and inspectors with (ahem) widely varying I.T. capability!
