Anyone a Cardiff flyer?

Not sure if this should've been in 'Struts' or 'Wanted' etc but wondered if there was anyone who flies out of Cardiff who has a spare seat or who might like to share costs so that I can get back some 'feel' for light GA landings. Not started a flare below 50 feet since I started on 757s in the 1990s...

About 6 feet of pipe from valves backwards, a KR2 manifold from GPASC and a hame-made silencer (1.1lbs for 2.5 feet!) and no flywheel. At 2200rpm it is quiet enough not to heard through our double glazing but, sitting in it, the noise of the prop easily overtakes the noise of the exhaust when you po...

Bit of crud above the inlet valve to the float chamber keeping the valve closed up? How about crud on the main jet needle holding it closed or sat at the bottom of the main jet? Other thought is that the fuel might be 'off'. About 2 months and my MG won't start on old fuel unless I put fuel stabilis...

Just had an email from FROST about some stuff called Ethomix. It says it prevents the nasty effects of Ethanol (gum/corrosion etc) on engines and fuel lines.

I've not tried it but thought it might be of interest.

Ken. I've had a crack at saving the scanned files. Can you PM an email address for me to send them to?

I've just taken delivery of a new plans set from Eric. My 3 old sets are all tattered. I'll try and scan them on the assumption that Eric won't mind.
I'll let you know when the files are done. Might be tonight.

Ian. Are these the ones that come apart for cleaning, have a standard 14mm thread and then take a screwed lead for noise suppression?
I have some ex-Centurion tank ones, if that helps?

It seems that you can get 150psi before the relief valves if the filter comes straight off of the pump like so many car conversion kits do. I'm not sure if the other filters that run from the old cooler area are at lower pressure.

VW oil pressure and HP1 filters

I have the 'ACRO' oil cooler bypass and a remote filter on my engine. Does anyone know whether the filter thus runs at a regulated pressure or is it a full pressure from the pump. I recall that some pump/filter conversions need the 150-ish psi rated HP1 filter canister. I've also seen a nifty filter...

Thanks, Ian.

I've had a crack at SIP and have seen those 2 pages on their site. This compressor is 20-ish years old and it seems that they don't have the capacitors for it. Thanks for the REMCO link. I'll try it tomorrow.

Compressor start capacitors. Anyone 'up' on these?

I've got an old SIP Airmate 40050 compressor that has a starting problem. It keeps blowing fuses and , I'm told, this indicates a failing start capacitor. It has 66uf - 400v on it plus 45s.f3bs.66 as a part number. Now, I'm guessing that it is a big bugga ( 4x1 inch)due to the size of the motor and ...

Have you tried the "red chalk" trick? The chalk turns white at a certain temp, so you can see in which order and at which rate the exhaust manifolds heat up by marking a point near the head on the bend from the port. I wondered if it might show up a different story to the EGT/CHTs. There are also th...
