Re: If Carling designed an LAA aircraft?

Went to the rally last week-end to get some inspiration/ideas for this concept. Unfortunately most (all?) available designs appear to focus on appearance (traditional, sleek, and in one case outrageous) or out and out peformance. I could see no attempt on a design for manufacture and/or functional a...

Re: If Carling designed an LAA aircraft?

Good to see this idea resurrected. I pretty much concur with 4535jacks proposal in particular the cost and build time aspects. I am not aware of any kitplanes that have been "designed for manufacture" (see my previous comments years ago) I don't agree that SSDR & Grp A/SEP are incompatible, there is...

SEP / Microlights

Where aircraft are available in either the SEP or Microlight category (e.g. Avid, Kitfox, C42, Shadow Eurostar etc.) Can the MIcrolight version be registered as an SEP assuming that any required modifications can be carried out and approved (e.g. electric fuel pump on Eurostar)? Presumably, since bo...

Re: Red Tape Challenge

Thanks for the feeedback, I will try the CAA GA direct but shan't hold my breath. I see they have yet another consultation on the go to " direct the CAA on the way forwards with regards to GA and how it manages risk ." It's disappointing that they have to consult on this, can't they work it out for ...

Re: Red Tape Challenge

Apologies if this has been dealt with elsewhere but I've lost track of the progress of the CAA RTC. The issue I would like to see progressed most is that of pilots with SEP (Group A) licences being able to log time spent flying microlight aircraft (issues No. 231 & 234 on the original RTC list) This...

What's the status of this idea?
How much interest?
Any interesting input?
What's the next step(s)?

Re: PERMIT OR EASA

Slightly confused. If the aircraft has an EASA PtF administered by the LAA does the owner /pilot still enjoy the benefits of the LAA PtF scheme (re. maintainance, permit renewals etc.) or does it have to be maintained in the same way as a certified aircraft?

Re: Composite panel 'flat-pack' construction

Hi Andy, I don't think the construction techniques was so much abandoned as the design ran its course. I believe he chap involved with the Chevron did have a new design two seat motorglider which he showed at an Expo when it was still held at Booker. Not the prettiest aeroplane to some eyes but it ...

Suspect you're thinking of the EA9 referred to above.

Re: Composite panel 'flat-pack' construction

This is exactly the kind of thinking required for the "Carling/Carlsberg" idea. Can we get John Edgley involved - he appears to be a master at attracting funding for new projects? Is he a member?

Re: If Carling designed an LAA aircraft?

Cheap and quick build do not go together. I think that is a bit of a generalisation. It depends on the design, materials, and how it is put together, all of which have yet to be decided as have the definitions of "cheap" and "quick build". I would have thought that one objective of this exercise is...

Re: If Carling designed an LAA aircraft?

In the first post ColinC said: Is there a risk that the Carling/Carlsberg design and build project could end up producing another "expensive" kit aeroplane? Perhaps one of the design criteria should be that the finished aircraft project should cost no more than GBP (insert figure here)? That may he...
