Re: If Carling designed an LAA aircraft?

Hi, We had a bit of a discussion about the spec. in the pub tonight (as you do) and agreed on a few key points that would be important to us: 2 seats (side by side) 2 x 100kg crew 3 hours safe endurance 40kt stall 3:1 speed range or better Straightforward handling Tricycle gear (more appealing to m...

Re: If Carling designed an LAA aircraft?

the Ikarus C42 uses a similar ‘skeleton’ technique (in alloy tube) and also gets its form from add on skins. Would it not be feasible to have a simple alloy tube fuselage structure clothed in a modern flat ‘plastic’ material to give a pleasing form that did not require painting or UV protection? Cl...

Re: If Carling designed an LAA aircraft?

Given the plethora (now there's a word!) of other designs available, what would make this one attractive? In my opinion, the thing that would make this attractive would be simplicity/cost of building. I don't know what the "average" build time of a "typical" LAA type is but some projects appear to ...

Re: If Carling designed an LAA aircraft?

I would suggest that defining a set of requirements would be the right place to start. Do you mean requirements for the product (Aircraft) or for the project? If the former, see my earlier comments re. aircraft type, configuration etc. Perhaps a "brainstorming" session would kick off a few ideas al...

Re: If Carling designed an LAA aircraft?

This idea seems to be gathering momentum & I fully agree with Brian Hope's comment that a business case would have to be made starting (perhaps) with some kind of project definition using input from interested members. I am not suggesting a full blown QFD type approach but a more simple flowchart e,...

Re: Red Tape Challenge

Does anyone know if there are to be any regular updates on the progress of the many issues raised or if there will be a prioritsed list of items to be dealt with together with timescales?

Re: If Carling designed an LAA aircraft?

I think this is well worth pursuing. It seems to me that most of the available kit planes have not been "Designed for Manufacture" particularly by individuals working alone with limited resource. It should be possible to come up with a design that is simple to assemble, & using common parts (e.g. as...
