That sounds like a very plausible explanation GD and I'll follow your advice. I have already started dismantling the gun, but haven't had time to set about cleaning it. There are signs of something nasty around the innards of the plastic "plughole" device that sits in the threaded fitting for the pa...

Spraygun choices

I'm having bother with my Chinese spraygun again and am looking for an affordable replacement, if there is such a thing. Preferably one that comes with instructions in plain English that a novice like me has some hope of understanding. All I need is something that will reliably spray a decent coat o...

Just an update and for the record, I bought a single washer from LAS ( @ about £12 ), measured this and ordered replicas from worldofwashers.com They supplied me, by return almost, with 10 felt washers exactly the same size as the Clevelands and made from what appears to be much superior felt, for £...

I confess that I had a similar problem with my cap strip material from a similar source in the USA, bought many years ago. Mostly acceptable or even good quality, but the rest immediately rejected. Very roughly sawn out and oversize, so had to be laboriously planed and sanded down to size by hand (w...

Felt washers to fit 600x6 wheels & 1-1/2"OD axle

Does anyone happen to know where I can find the dimensions of the felt grease seal washers ( possibly Cleveland p/n 154-00400 ) that fit inside the pairs of cupped and tabbed washers on my Cleveland wheels? The wheels are older models and no specific part number is visible. Axles are 1.5"OD. The ins...

Looks as though minimum quantity may well be 5 litres. Otherwise it would be very useful stuff for the many small metal fittings in my project. I'm using an effective 2 pack etch primer from LAS, but this is nasty stuff and needs spraying to achieve a decent finish, so is always a fiddle in my primi...

Dave, Glad to hear you now have a brand new engine. The Mikron is a possible alternative to my stored Continental A-80, for my project and I may seek your advice if the forthcoming overhaul turns out to be too expensive! One major problem would be the design and approval of a new engine mount and as...

I'm considering using Oratex for my Boredom Fighter project, mainly to save weight and time. The matt finish is also more appropriate for the “BF”. Fuselage and tail unit are nearly ready for covering now, but I’m holding back until I can be sure it is suitable. This process seems promising, but not...

Looks like I shall have to resurrect my earlier posting, in the hope of someone with an expert ( or, unlike me, even a basic!) knowledge of aircraft plumbing coming forward to assist with a solution. Having now reached the stage where I need to finalise plumbing arrangements for my "Pull" type Cleve...

Can't help with your question but I have wondered about a Mikron for my project and will be interested in any comments about this engine.

I'd probably have to look for a good second-hand specimen and would need to be confident that some sort of spares and engineering back up would be available!

Thanks Brian and I'll press on. I can just about see the light at the end of the tunnel with the BF( hopefully not the headlight of an oncoming express train!).

The continuation of my flying activities depends on the NPPL DVLC Group 1(Private driving modified) medical classification, that allows me to fly solo. The developments via EASA are clearly to the advantage of many NPPLs who qualify under Group 2 medical standards, but the (assumed) minority who are...

I agree with John. The NPPL was hard won and too valuable to the likes of me to lose. I'd like to know asap whether I should continue spending time and money on my building project, or lock the garage door and give up before spending any more money or valuable time. Very sad to have got this far and...

Thanks for the brilliant suggestion Sam! I had thought about trying to squash a small diam. aluminium tube into a roughly 2mm triangular section, but this sounds more promising and I'll give it a try.

Light Aero charge over £50 for the "proper" tool and that is about £45 too much for my budget!
