Re: London Airspace Consultation Launched

So this change makes a small triangle of airspace over the channel go from base of FL125 down to FL105 and slightly more relevant the Clacton CTA over the sea between Southend and Manston lower from FL85 to 5500ft to the west and FL65 to the east, it also actually moves the boundary between the 5500...

Re: Enduring Permit to Fly?

Isnt it also true to say that none of this has any relevance to LAA Permits to fly.
I believe the aircraft involved were/are factory built Remos G3, CSA Sportcruiser/Piper Sport and a couple more types.

Re: London Airspace Consultation Launched

James, I just looked at this, well at least the Exec summary and part B which dealt with changes below 4000ft, however I couldn't find anywhere where it showed any changes of the airspace, that's not to say it isn't going to, but I couldn't find anything. Any idea where I can find out how they are p...

Re: Vans RV4 Tail Wheel assy

Alan's RV4 tailwheel looks the same as my RV6 tailwheel. I think this may still be the standard unit on the RV7, but not sure. An Alternative that some people have used is the Bell tailwheel. Gloster Air Parts sell these in the UK. see page 64 of the latest mag for their contact details on their adv...

Re: Operating a Tiger Moth

Join the de Havilland Moth Club! They have lots of good information and run a few courses on Moth care and maintenance and flying and also produce some training videos.
Perhaps also ask the Tiger Club and Cambridge School of flying who both operate Tiger Moths

Re: CAA announce 8.33 Hand Held Radios are Legal

continuing the thread drift! I had heard the same thing about this Belgian law. ie it was meant for Belgian operating foreign registered aircraft, not foreign visitors. A friend of mine used to operate a UK registered Glasair in Belgium, nothing happened to them for a few years after the law started...

Re: US Velocity self build kit.

The Velocity on the UK register doesn't have an EASA permit (or any other permit) I would suggest though that talking to the owner might be a good idea, see g-info http://www.caa.co.uk/application.aspx?catid=60&pagetype=65&appid=1&mode=detailnosummary&fullregmark=VELO This aircraft was airworthy in ...

Re: Bush Plane Design

Yes I guess the complexity of the controls from the stick/rudders to the V tail is the problem for a "real" aeroplane, which perhaps isn't at all a problem on a model with electric wires to servos on the controls. Maybe if you had a fly-by wire aircraft it would be a lot easier! Only V tail aircraft...

Re: Devon Strut Fly in's

I wonder what there is to stop Chris organising the Bolt Head fly-in, asking his friends in the Devon strut to help out on the day, as individuals and putting the date in the Devon strut newsletter and LAA Mag. Other strip owners could do the same. It would be their fly-in, not a strut event, but st...

Re: Southend Controlled Airspace

James, yes there is at least one Southend controller I know who regularly flies microlights and group A aircraft. But however friendly and helpful they are, it wont help if they get the airspace and then corporate policy dictates that they not be so helpful and are also too busy. Donaster controller...

Re: Upholsterer wanted.

some years ago there was a local guy who came to a Gloster strut meeting and gave a talk about making seats, doing upholstery on aircraft, I think he had done a number of Europas. Maybe Harry Hopkins knows if he is still around or has records of who it was.

Re: CAA announce 8.33 Hand Held Radios are Legal

Im not sure that I completely understand this. It would seem that all they have said is that Radios already approved by CAA and EASA for ground use are now approved for airborn use. Are there many handheld radios already approved for ground us that aren't approved for use in the air? Every little he...

The email address Ive used for Abbeville douanes is

[email protected]

Ive never had a reply from them, but the one time I did see them on the airfield, I saw that they had a copy of my email.

so hopefully it works!

Re: GAR Developments

I agree with what Brian says, I think part of the "problem" with Abeville, is that as far as the airfield is concerned, they don't need any advanced notice, but they do expect you to have informed the local Douanes separately. I always email the douanes with the information, the address I have, obta...

Re: Southend Controlled Airspace

James, Yes, Gatwick uses lots of airspace in the London TMA, but the point is, that at low level, which is what is of interest to most of us, this bit of airspace going down to the surface is considerably larger at Southend than at Gatwick. I cant see any justification for this. I cant see any justi...
