Performance reduction chart
I have just bought a copy of Flight testing of production aircraft by JA Crosby-Warren, Pitman 1943 Fig 1 in appendix A is missing and I was wondering whether anyone else who had a copy of this book could scan it for me? The text refers to fig 1 as a copy of Air Diagram No 1077 published by HMSO but...

Re: Vortex generators from STOLSPEED
Thank you Trev that is very useful feedback.
I have ordered a kit just in case I may need it.
And sure, any flight testing will need to be disciplined and documented (even on an SSDR)

Re: Two of Bob Whittier's articles in 1962 Sport avaiation W
Hi Ian, once again my thanks for this. I had a bit of a clear out a year or so ago and must have thrown away the article I am looking for - so its all my fault! However, I have now found the information I was after in 4-8 of Hoerner's Fluid dynamic lift.I was chasing up the article on behalf of a fr...

Re: Two of Bob Whittier's articles in 1962 Sport avaiation W
Hi Ian, thanks for your help. Yep 1962 was only a guess; I had tried a google search and came up with the above issues of Sport Aviation as likely to have the article I need - but got it wrong! Bob's articles were always well informed and well written. They spanned many areas as I recall, from aerod...

Re: Two of Bob Whittier's articles in 1962 Sport avaiation W
Hi Ian, thanks so much! The Bob Whittier article on effects on drag of fabric sag, rib stitching, joints in overlapping plates, protruding rivets etc is really useful and informative. Truth is I'm after an article that I can just about recall, by Bob Whittier, who discusses how the low turbulence NA...

Two of Bob Whittier's articles in 1962 Sport avaiation WANTE
I'm after a couple of Bob Whittier's articles: Airfoil selection March 1962 Sport Aviation Some NACA airfoil tests April 1962 Sport Aviation I am no longer an EAA member so I cannot access the EAA archive myself. It would be much appreciated if a current member (or anyone still in possession of the ...

Re: How to make new spats
Hello Tony, you have posted some helpful replies to some of my earlier posts so it's great to be able to reciprocate. On YouTube you will find Mike Arnold's 'Moldless low-drag wheel pants'. Its about an hour long and a wonderful primer on making wheel spats. I gather you have some old spats so perha...

Re: WANTED MGL TC-3
Quite so and I have bought man=y items from Paul over the years.
But this time a second hand instrument in good condition will suffice for what I have in mind.
SO my wanted ad is a long shot but worth a try

Balance pipes for updraught induction systems
A balance pipe is seen on engines with twin carburettors and the rationale seems clear enough - to balance the pressures with a view to more uniform distribution of intake charges across the engine. But the most commonly seen versions of the Limbach L1700 and L2000 for example, have a low slung sing...

Re: URGENTLY NEEDED VW type 1 main bearing split shells
Good news. An air-cooled 50 hp 1,600cc was an early engine option for the VW type 25 bus (often called T3) from 1979 to 1982. It must have been a sluggish vehicle when loaded despite – gasp – hydraulic tappets! But it WAS fitted with the elusive steel-backed bearing shells with the oil groove on the...
