John, on behalf of Lee H the owner of the VP1 in question, thanks for posting the BMAA topic on here.
I've spoken with Laurie and updated him on the current position regarding recovery.
Thankfully, no injuries and only some minor u/c damage.

Re: VW ignition on a Turbulent
it was proving difficult to find someone prepared to produce the units in relatively small quantities. That was the major problem when David (Mickleburgh) sadly passed away and his son Henry failed to find a reliable manufacturer of the units. The days of "garden shed" manufacturing have all but go...

Re: Pitot Tube Bending
Fill the tube with soft sand, tap the tube to ensure sand is compacted well, make sure it is capped of at each end to ensure the sand remains firm (tape should do) and carefully bend.

Re: GY80 Gardan Horizon Owners/Pilots ?
If it's of any interest, I had the floating discs on our Horizon (G-BKNI) duplicated using stainless steel back in the early 90's. The mild steel discs were a real pain due to the constant build up of corrosion between the kidney shaped pads and the discs which in turn led to decreased braking effic...

Re: Magneto overhaul
I've read this thread with interest over the last few months and agree totally with what Lewis has to say on the subject. Condensers and coils degrade over time and although the falling off in efficiency is not usually detectable during operation over the years, they will eventually fail. I often as...

Quote: "It's a real pain with my old mags, after two months it took two swings" Ditto Mike! I run my 1834 up every month and the SR4s fire it up on the first or second swing. Nowt wrong with them if they are set up right and everything else is spot on. The only down side is if you overdo the priming...

Re: Microlight or Class A ?
Off the top of my head I can think of two reasons to go Grp A. No requirement for a noise certificate and acceptance at most airfields (still a few airfields with a blanket ban on aircraft registered in the microlight category). I'm sure there will be others along shortly with more reasons to go Grp...

Re: G-OLVR Fred on ebay
I spoke with Tony Oliver (the original builder) a couple of days ago to tell him that his old Fred was on Ebay. He told me he had looked at it a few years ago when he was looking for a new project and had considered rebuilding it until he saw the state of it and decided against it. I sincerely hope ...

Re: VW running rich
Not meaning to be critical of your posting Roger but there are only about two or three pages in any of the Haynes or other manuals relating to the VW air cooled engine that are of any use and as most VW engines converted for aircraft use come with a variety of differing carb, inlet manifold and igni...

A cautionary tale for farmstrip and airfield owners
Looks like using red diesel in machinery used for anything other than agriculture, horticulture and forestry work is illegal and I wonder how many airfield owners are using it in their mowers/tractors to cut the strip: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-13805083 The HMRC are quoted as saying...

I have to agree with Mike when he says it doesn't appear to be one sided and after reading the Council's summary of "events" and other documents stretching back to the time when planning permission was first granted for the airfield, IMHO many of the current problems could have been avoided. http://...
