CP I think I start to understand why we are talking different languages. “In Europe they can buy and fly factory built aircraft and self maintain thus avoiding the expense you mention as your reasons to self build.” My understanding of the rules is that it is fully balanced across Europe and they ar...

CP I am finding your posts very hard to follow but I think what Nick was getting at is that a factory micro – like a UK factory built CT – is on a permit and you can do your own maintenance. A Factory built VLA will be on a C of A not a permit and will require professional maintenance. The situation...

LAA first impression

This is the new era of the LAA. We are new exciting and fun. Come on in and join our vibrant BB. Oh S***T it does not work! The PR implications of this are a lot bigger than you might think. As is said in another thread, there is only one chance to make a first impression.

"fallacy to talk about "the rest of Europe" as if it is an entity"

Good point.

CP I too am confused by your argument. You do not want to get your hands dirty, but you want the benefits of a permit. I do not see this working. Factory built Euro LSA’s are C of A aircraft. My main saving on running costs is doing my own maintenance. If you do not think you can do this you will ha...

My MCR cost 62.5% of a new factory built one from Europe with similar kit, not including delivery of the factory aircraft. For the record, I would rather have mine, even if the cost of purchase was a lot closer. If you are buying factory aircraft because you do not think you are capable of building ...

“can fly what we really want to.....Factory Built.” “Someone has to maintain the aircraft = Job” I have gone from a factory built to building and maintaining my own. My AA5B was costing about £4700 on average a year to maintain and my MCR is costing about £250 ish. I think what people want is afford...

Germany and Italy. No official info. Rumor has it that the Germans are going for Mode S in a big way, but I could not point you to any hard evidence of this. I get the impression that some of the states are just waking up to the fact that for VFR aircraft it is not necessarily easy to fit a transpon...

International flights and Mode S

I have just had a long chat with John Banks at the CAA regarding international flights and Mode S. Formal responses have been received from France and The Netherlands and verbal comments from others. France No planes to insist on Mode S for international flights. Flights VFR in CAS (BCD) will requir...
