John, Is the unit that is causing you grief a sealed unit or can you open it up? If the latter, may be worth having a good look to see if there are any lose wires, components or connectors. Beyond that I suspect your troubleshooting options are a bit limited. Can you easily remove the unit from your...

Unless you want to go down the route of VSWR meters (I suspect you don't!), then your testing options at the moment are a bit limited. I would suggest calling Cardiff for a radio check (push aircraft out of your metal building and phone them first!) to get an idea if they can hear you 5/5 (they shou...

I would suggest the following: 1. With engine running on ground, ensure no undue interference from mags/ignition system. Some plug leads/mags aren't screened which will mean the interference is so high you can't hear any transmissions. 2. Choose an airfield with manned radio which is at least 30 NM ...

Mike, If you only want to access YAWS and don't need a fancy full web page browsing capability, then most of the low end spec mobile phones will work fine. Key things to ask for is a phone with GPRS capability and a display of at least 1.5 x 1.5" (the bigger the better). You should also ask if the p...

John, If now: 1. Only one sender wire connected (all others disconnected from unit) 2. Earth connected directly to battery 3. Engine off along with all other electronics 4. A known, good, +12V connection to battery and you are still seeing fluctuating readings then time to send it back for repair or...

Hi Paul, Thanks for the info about different foam specs. I had Googled for general info, but couldn't really find anything useful. Now I enter "40/240 foam" and hey presto! My max endurance (to fumes in the tank!) is 2 hrs 30 mins, but longest leg I am likely to fly is 2 hrs. I suspect that regular ...

Confor Foam
Does anyone have any practical experience with using Confor Foam? Am considering renewing the seat in my Vagabond and wonder if a sheet of 1" Confor foam over ordinary 2" thick upholstry foam will have the desired effect? Base of seat is 3/16" ply which sort of sits on a deck chair-like canvas sling...

John, Does the unit appear to work okay without the engine running? If so it could well be a problem with the supply voltage. As Bertrand mentions, a simple filter may cure the problem. May be worth contacting the manufacturer to see what criteria are necessary for that unit to display "RDAC fail". ...

John, I am not familiar with your unit at all, but it sounds like you could have a problem with the "processor" which is affected by either temperature or vibration. The fact you can use the unit for an hour or so without problems would tend to indicate a very intermittant problem. If you had earthi...

Hangarage will always be an issue in the south. Have you looked on the notice board at Popham to see what shares are currently available? That may be a first step to experiencing "LAA" type flying as aircraft and hangarage already exist. The Popham Vagabond group usually has a share available. They ...

HM R and C has always been interested in strips. They used to visit my friend's airstrip every year or so just to say "hello". They also carry out spot checks at my local airfield - a stamp is placed on the booking in/out pages to show their attendance. I think it is just a gentle ramping up of thei...
