Re: Wing Root Fairings
I just saw the recent responses, having returned from a Canadian holiday. I've postponed work on the wing roots, whilst concentrating on the engine cowlings... Julian, thanks. I'll be on to the phone to impag immediately. I like the look of this foam. Dave, rack your brains harder! Does Roy's list o...

Re: Pitot Tube Bending
BIll, I have got plastic tube in the wing, but don't like the look of plastic in the cockpit, so it turns metal through the centre section and into the cockpit. Dave

Re: Pitot Tube Bending - Job Done
Thanks for all the advice. It's like many of those problems - get on and do it and it's not that difficult. A mate happened to call round to view and brought over a small Clarke pipe bender which he had. There's enough space to pull lots of excess tube - bending it round things - through into the co...

Re: Pitot Tube Bending
Thanks Ian. I don't think I'll be able to use a tube bender, as space in the cockpit it limited. I think I can manage to bend it with finger power, but am looking for other advice. Dave

Pitot Tube Bending
How do I bend 1/4" alloy pitot tube? It has to route along the wing and at some stage bend through 90 deg on entry into the cockpit, with more to follow around to the instrument. I assume I can't just bend it without kinking it. I guess dry sand is an answer - then a strong vacuum cleaner to get it ...

Re: Walter Mikron
I've answered Joe McKay's questions separately from the forum. I now have all the manuals and am making progress with the engine mounts etc. I'm happy to help if anyone needs to ask about Mikrons (mind you, the knowledge bank may be small, but at least there's more than in it than there used to be).

Re: LAA Website
Here's another supporter of the website, and indeed the LAA and the LAA magazine. Without doubt in my view, the magazine is the best UK mag there is, and the website does the job for me too. There's no place for mudslinging here - in any direction. How nice it is to be regulated by people who know s...

Re: Intercom
It's frustrating isn't it? There's plenty of willing people around, but few of them willing to post a response on the LAA forum. Maybe you should try the Flyer forum instead. There are quite a few Norfolk folk on there who might help. Sorry I can't..

Re: Wing Root Fairings
Thanks to all for the suggestions; I now have some stuff to aim at. Mike, yes please for some photos. I'll pm you shortly. I'd put myself down for that course Brian, if you get one up and running, March would be perfect timing for me. When it comes to the EAA having 160k members as against only 8k h...

Re: Wing Root Fairings
Brian, thanks; that's exactly what I was looking for. Is there anywhere you know that I can read up on this? I'm a complete beginner... where do I find blue foam? etc. As I explain many times to people, I've put up the odd wonky fence in the past, but never done any proper woodwork stuff. Mike, I th...

Re: Wing Root Fairings
Thank you Mike, I'll certainly have a look into plaster...
It surprises me how few responses this forum gets - a swift look at our cousins' EAA forum shows what could be learnt from others.
Cheers, Dave

Wing Root Fairings
With my fuselage now sitting temporarily on the centre section, I've started thinking about how I'm going to make the wing root fairings. Having just successfully made the windscreen attachment surround out of woven fibreglass cloth (the first time I've ever used fibreglass), it occurs to me that a ...

I am preparing for the installation of my new Mikron III engine and need to speak to someone with Mikron knowledge. Right now I'm trying to find out what thread the oil pressure and temperature gauge senders need to be - are the threads BSP, metric or what? The installation manual is not helpful: 'T...

Re: VW engine mount rubber bushings
Colin,
Try http://www.martins-rubber.co.uk/. I think Ron Souch uses them and I got them to supply some plain rubber rings for my tailwheel shock. All you need is to produce a drawing and specify the hardness.
Cheers,
Dave
