Re: Licences and medicals

Whilst obviously very good news for some, unless I have misinterpreted it, it only applies to UK CAA (poo brown) and NPPL licences. Therefore I think if like a lot of folk you converted your old poo brown UK licence to an EASA one a year or so ago a normal AME medical is unfortunately still going ap...

Re: polarn pump urgent warning

Just possibly interesting..
However,a link that doesn't use Faceache or Twotter is needed. A lot of us don't use such things so don't know what the urgent warning is all about. :D

Re: Rotax Article, LA mag, Oct '15

The CFS general Modus Operandi is totally out of synch with the way LAA and BMAA aircraft operate in the UK. I forsee the growth of non-manufacturer parts will become the norm in the UK for Rotax parts, similar to how it has grown in the rest of Europe. Have you ever tried just buying parts from CFS...

Re: Met Office new site

Not only is it 'Not an improvement. It is a retrograde step.

There is little wrong with the existing site. It may be a bit old fashioned but it gives you exactly what you need to know to go flying, the new site does not do this at all. Not at all fit for purpose!

Re: Pitch Trim Run-away

Hi John, As explained on the Sportcruiser forum there was a SB concerning this back in 2009/10'ish. The stick trim( Ray Allen ) on the early S/C were wired by CZAW and required a modification. I would check that this has modification has been carried out because if not it will certainly cause a trim...

Re: Winter altimeter subscale

Yes when I purchased one of these 7years ago I too was amazed that it didn't go above 1035. However for me I only have it as a backup to my EFIS so it has never been a big deal. The altimeter other than this shortcoming has been fine. I now need to purchase another backup Altimeter for my new projec...

Re: IMC in a Rotax 912 engined aircraft

Hi Donald,

Yes exactly. They have nominated these types as suitable( I assume airframewise) but I would hope consideration is being given to the fact that the Rotax charging system doesn't appear to me to be able to keep up with the necessary equipment requirements of flying in serious IMC.

Re: IMC in a Rotax 912 engined aircraft

Donald, We are pushing things off track but... I could be confused here but as I understand it the 100hp 912ULS is the uncertified version of the 100hp 912S. I wouldn't have thought many/any LAA machines are using the certified engine. The 912ul is the 80hp version. Anyway, I have and are referring ...

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the input however I already have a standard carburettor Rotax 912ULS engine for the project.

IMC in a Rotax 912 engined aircraft

I would like some thoughts and opinions please.. In appreciating that we have yet to hear the LAA IMC equipment requirements I have being doing electrical current draw calculations, prior to panel design, for my latest Rotax 912 engined build project. I am working on the assumption that a heated pit...

Re: Advice on new strobes

I have also looked into strobes for a new project but have come to the conclusion that the quality and brightness of some of the LED strobes around makes them not worth having. This company I believe make good quality and bright strobes, not cheap though:- http://www.aeroleds.com/ Personally I may g...

Re: Aeronautical Chart Sheet 2171CD South Eng. ed40

Well I agree in thinking it is awful...overly cluttered, and, mine at least, has a washed out faded look to it. At the moment I find I can't just take a quick glance at it like the old one when flying along.
Thinking of dumping mine and continuing with last years chart!

If it conforms to EN228 and does not contain Ethanol then you are good to go.
