Re: Handheld radio - New purchase & Licence application

Many thanks for the suggestion Clive and I'm veering towards buying a Yaesu at present. Jim, has your Yaesu radio met your expectations? Do you use just the internal batteries or a separate 12v supply? (I'm assuming a 12 volt supply is OK. I read somewhere that this may need an adapter to drop the v...

Re: Handheld radio - New purchase & Licence application

Many thanks Clive and Jim.

I originally assumed that I wouldn't be eligible ( hence my delay in applying ), but then I have lost the choice of buying a used old radio and will have to go for a new one, so am hoping that Jim is right and that I'll qualify as suggested.

I'll give it a try!

Handheld radio - New purchase & Licence application

I'd like to buy a new 8.33 handheld radio for my project, which is progressing now, in the hope I may qualify for the CAA/EU(!) discount, if there is any money left in the kitty. I don't yet have a registration for the aircraft and assume I must, therefore, apply for a £15 Radio Licence for a handhe...

Re: Hand held radio.

I'm following this with interest, having made and installed a half wave dipole ( following instructions found on the web: http://chrusion.com/BJ7/InvVeeAntenna4ULs.pdf ) and mounted it inside the fuselage woodwork, in the hope of achieving better performance with a handheld. The antenna uses a "Paws...

Would this be any good? The available dimensions may not suit your needs ....

Brilliant.

Pity the content can't be added to the LAA website, for reference, in future.

Using Brackett type carb air filters

Has anyone experience of making up the required aluminium frame for a "custom" shaped filter of this type? There is a welder local to me who could deal with that aspect. The hot air box I'm using is of the type that would fit an Aeronca Chief/A-65 (not the application in my case) and there isn't a s...

Re: Leather helmet: Adapting old RAF"C"type to a modern radi

Wrote to Headset Services and they replied very promptly. Unfortunately - and not surprisingly perhaps - they are no longer able to assist with this type of work.

I'll keep looking & hope there will be a solution ( a helpful boffin ? ) out there somewhere!

Regards.
