We have a pair of Zulus in our SportCruiser. They are wonders of engineering. Our strip very often has very noisy drag racing on the main runway (we use the grass alongside). With the ANR on, we simply can't hear the V8's with no exhausts only a few hundred metres away. Amazing. We only got chance t...

Peter I'm all for turning up in my plane to a big rally having decided on the day, be 15th on final (no slots - whoops that's another topic!), and trusting the general public to sensibly walk amongst the parked planes. I agree the risk is small, even very small, that someone would get hurt, and that...

Nigel quoted Burke.... Nigel I am aware of that quotation. It is wise indeed, but it does not help guide me as to what to do about it. I think it is too easy to expect the LAA Exec to make a stand on this basis. I am interested in how the US organisers handle liability. I think you are right that th...

Michael said ... 'Fight back'

Michael.

Agreed. Any ideas?

I don't want to blow open the thread, but I can't see how even something like a change of government can put the 'compo cat' back in the bag, let alone anything the LAA can do.

But I am open to ideas!

I have been monitoring this thread from the start, but now feel moved to say something. It is with the deepest sadness that 'innocent fun' has been killed by 'compensation culture'. But killed it has been, RIP. There is little anyone can do about it, and that includes the CEO of the LAA. I'll give y...

John I agree that the cause of the fluctuations must stop at the RDAC. On the other hand, you do seem to have done all the sensible things I would do and you have not fixed it yet, so it might be worth swapping the Ultra just to confirm that (assuming it won't cost anything). Your symptoms are defin...

John Simon C here, fellow SC builder (Dynon though). We have one MGL instrument, and I rate the UK distie highly for service. I happen to have a degree in electronics, but not much direct experience in avionics. I'm also a bit far away being in the Midlands. Maybe I can help with some basic question...

Irv Just a quick note to say we followed your route advice, and everything fell into place beyond expectation, particularly the radio work. We spoke to London Info, who handed us to Farnboro N (we were ready), who handed us to Thames Radar (ready again). Things were very busy on the radio the whole ...

The LAA website complements the mag well. But the LAA website really does need a visual makeover. Simply put - the web site is the face of LAA for new members, the mag is the reason a new member will stay as a member, along with all the other excellent services the LAA provides. I think hosting Stru...

Just because things are in a GA or certified design does not necessarily mean it is a good idea. Much of the current electrical design thinking goes back decades, and hasn't changed due to regulatorary issues or pilot familiarity reasons. This is depsite fantastic improvements in the actual avioncs ...

Irv Thanks for the response: 1) Hand-held back-up GPS - Check! (Garmin GPSMap96 Mono - great piece of kit) 2) Spare Pilot - Check! (2000 hours logged, has two working eyes, slightly aged, hope he doesn't read this!) 3) Qtr Mil Chart - Check! (Bought from LAA shop this week, to go with my brand-new 1...

Irv I read your web site with interest. I am dilligently planning a very special trip into London City at the weekend, in my 'SEP' (with CAA and LCY permission), routing down the 'M40' corridor, then keeping south of Luton/Stanstead, turning in over the Thames crossing. I had already decided to talk...

Conrad

I am troubled by this. Do you think the engine thief is likely to be a builder or flyer, or are they just after bits, or even just after the scrap value?

It is slightly easier for me to understand if these low-lifes are at least not aviators.

On a slightly more serious note, would it be good to have more tech in the mag, or is it just me?

I have used the Garmin 96 (mono) and 296. They are excellent aviation-aware devices, and I would recommend Garmin to anybody. But they don't have CAA maps - for that I have a PDA and Memory Map, not really aviation aware, but more than adequate if you have both devices. It certainly places you on a ...
