http://www.pilotshop.nl/ Peter Mundy's shop in Lelystad keeps a good stock of European ICAO charts at a reasonable price. The Jepp's charts are available from most of the usual pilot shops.

I've not visited that many. Stauning has a museum and hosts the KZ rally in early June, a very popular event. Ærø is a very pleasant Island with a friendly aeroclub. Tønder is just over the German border and used to be popular for cheap avgas. I think those days are over sadly, but it may still be w...

In short no. There were some C120s bought in on a permit, but that ceased eventually. The basic rule is that if it's eligible for the issue of a standard Cof A, then it has to stay on that . If the type certificate is no longer supported then it may be allowed to move onto permit, as was the case of...

Lithium batteries, especially Lithium Iron Phosphate, hold some promise for lighter weight and good cranking power, but there are some caveats. Without a good battery management system, you could risk having a short battery life, especially if you fully discharge it. There is a risk of fire if the b...

I saw them at Sun'n'Fun last year and was quite impressed.

This may be of interest. I also know a classic Europa owner who regularly tows and rigs his aircraft single-handed, though 20-30 minutes trailer to taxy is probably closer to the mark. Also a very important addition to the walk round that the "Wings stay on/Wings fall off" lever is in the correct p...

Off the top of my head: Glastar and Avid Flyer. If you add in types that can be easily de-rigged for trailering, then there's the Europa and RV-12. Include some recently on permit Annex 2 aircraft, then some of the earlier Moths could be considered. Not permit, but there's always the Molt Taylor Aer...

I think that the Raven tailwheel has effectively taken over from the Haigh one now: http://www.ravenaircraft.com/cat_airframe.html I guess a push-pull bowden wire, similar to those used on carb heat/cabin heat flaps would suffice. Normally the preserve of larger tailwheel types, but I guess it tames...

Hi Sam, I don't want to curb your obvious enthusiasm, but this will all need to be inspected and signed off by your inspector and he/she would be the best person to guide you through the tasks. As for torques. Do you have the plans? If so, they may recommend the appropriate value. Failing that, I wo...

You can let them fly it, but you can't charge for anything other than the fuel they use. Alternatively you can sell a share of 5% or more and they can then pay their fair share of all the costs without breaking the rules. The CAA will need to be informed of all the beneficial owners and what proport...

I agree to an extent with Rob's comment. I've only flown 3 or 4 heel brake machines of which the Cub (J3) was the easiest to use. The Chippy and Jodels with the differential braking at end of travel works fine if correctly set up, but reaching for the handle to get combined braking isn't ideal. I al...

With the exception of strobes and autopilots requiring individual approval, the LAA accepts items in the Van's catalogue as approved for installation. The TADS specifically refers to the 2004 edition, but the Andair valve is listed so it should be fine on inspector approval only. You can find that e...

Well yes, except when it isn't. I've been all over Europe VFR, but I've also been stuck for days due to low ceilings, mist etc. The Channel Islands can be notorious for dropping below SVFR minima when conditions are CAVOK once you get over the sea. Often in those cases an IFR departure would quickly...

Phil, I did an airways trip in my RV-4 last weekend. Through the Los Angeles Class B airspace over the stream of arriving traffic. The aircraft's limitations document says restricted to Day/VFR unless equipped according to FAR Pt91.205 (or words to that effect). Your transponder and static system ne...
