Made in China and assembled locally? Just like that bunk-bed I bought from IKEA? I can see why it crashed.

Hope he kept the receipt.

Mode S comedy

Nice piece of hangar chat for you all. I flew a 757 from Cardiff to Sharm el Sheik in Egypt (2500 miles each way) last night. We got as far as the Swiss/Italian border when the controller asked if we could reset our Mode S ident (in the form of ABC1234 for the flight callsign) since it had been left...

Pics of G-CCKV (Isaacs Fury) and ther furies.

Anyone got pics? My son (aged 2 1/2) has developed a fascination with the Fury since seeing a pic in the LAA magazine. I can't find CCKV pics anywhere on the internet. Any Fury might do. Any Fury links and pics would be appreciated. The boy has got taste. I wouldn't mind one myself if I could get ha...

Slightly off topic, but I've recently read a book by Carroll Smith about nut 'n' bolt technology. Lots of things I never knew about bolt selection, correct wire locking and how to select and size bolts correctly. Not exactly flying related but maybe a useful item to put into an engineering section? ...

IIRC, Mogas has a 'shelf life' measured in weeks. My Morris minor Sidevalve (1949, 6.6:1 comp ratio) needed a squirt of easystart to fire up but ran alright following 7 months of dry storage. My VW (7.8:1, 1835, Leburg) wouldn't start at all after 3 hours of swinging until someone suggested a single...

Tesco did a 'laminator' for about £12. I printed labels out at home and then laminated and cut them out. Looks miles better than a dymo, IMHO.

Webster Whirlwind ignition system

I was flicking through some pics and saw the 7-cyl Whirlwind with the 2 Lucas distributors with 7 brass rivets drilled into the caps. I was wondering if anyone knew how Ron managed to get 7 triggerings from the points. 7 lobes machined onto the distributor shaft or something else? There is a 'beer b...

I made a trailer. Easy peasy after an aircraft rebuild! The weight is going to be in the 3 corners only so you can add a lot of lightness. Cost about £200 excluding the wheels for all new bits. Managed 69.9 mph on the motorway without trouble and can be broken down for storage. Have you thought abou...

Pics coming. 3/4 hollow spindle, 3 inch radius, 3.5 inch between rim edges, drum brakes, sealed bearings, 6 lbs weight each side including heavyweight steel spacer and heavy steel castelated nut. Both could be replaced to save about 3/4 lb? All new. I got your answerphone calls but have been on 'evi...

Parkair. I'd never intentionally upset or offend my beloved FRED (they are very sensitive, y'know!) The last aeroplane I flew with one engine was a C150, about 15 years ago, and have flown only 757 and 767 since then. By comparison to these, a FRED isn't going to feel like "Man and Machine in perfec...

Will. If I may take you up on the offer above.... ...I haven't flown a taildragger for over 15 years and last flew a light aircraft in about 2000. I have allllllllmost finished an LAA rebuild and need to get to grips with light aircraft, and taildraggers specifically, before I take the plunge and co...

I have some drum braked wheels here with proper bearings and 3/4 inch spindles. I THINK they are marked as 3.00x3 and have about 6 inch rim diameter.
Any good?
