Re: Spray systems

Are you staying with a silver finish as final colour ?

If so, there is nothing wrong with blowing a clear butyrate over the silver as a 'top coat'.

Do not go back to nitrate and if you are considering a 2 pack top coat - oops, too late, you go nitrate to top coat.

Re: Spray systems

Sorry - a 'p' got in there...

Siegen gravity HVLP gun is what I have.

1.3 nozzle, sprays really well at 40psi at the outlet.

Re: Spray systems

Depends whether you have a compressor.. If in the workshop, a Spiegen HVLP gravity gun will cost under £40. An excellent gun, easy to use and clean. Very little overspray. If in the field, use an electric HVLP 'Hoover type sprayer' and hope for the best ! Be careful of blooming if damp. If you are u...

Re: Battery charging

Depends on what type of battery you have. Std vented or valved wet batteries will discharge relatively quickly, but will take charge from a cheapo charger. If you are on an AGM battery such as an Odyssey, they have a dedicated float charger, usually an Optimate or equivalent and they can be left on ...

Re: Ratchets

Also, try and get a stubby 1/4" drive gearless ratchet. 2 reasons, the gearless action means great for fine work and the short handle means you won't over-torque the fastener.

Re: Ratchets

Been using them for years - an absolute must have in my opinion. I have a full set of imperial and metric. Great for getting into tight spots.

Make sure they have a fine ratchet - I use Gearwrench and they ratchet at 5°

The New Chap

Saw a snippet in the mag that we have a new 'Head Chap' in Engineering.

Is he shy in introducing himself, or just really busy

Re: Which Aircraft for a first time builder?

Build an RV12iS, fly it for a year, enjoy the sweet handling and then make you mind up. Either sell for more than it cost you and buy what you want, or keep it and enjoy Vans flying. The RV12 is a great introductory aeroplane, the quality and builder support is first class and you can build it yours...

RV7 Project

I have been asked to try and broker a deal on a part built RV7 kit. Emp completed, slow build wings about 50% complete with some other parts and tools possibly available. The guy is a licenced Engineer and in the process of getting his LAA Inspectors ticket, so it is a nicely made example. Message o...

Some kilos of Hiloc fasteners various. Collars and washers, mostly sealed in bags, the odd cert with them. Ex brand new but tagged for a 737-200 - all were going in the skip and were saved.

Make an offer.

Primer......

No, not what you thought

If you use Tetrosyl Etch prime, they are having production issues. Just had an email from James Lomax, their Coatings Development Manager. They have no stock in 5 litre packs, but there are 1 litre packs available.

They hope to rectify shortly.
