Re: Winter altimeter subscale

Colin

my 2 1/4 inch Winter three pointer, bought 10 years ago, only goes to 1035, but as it's the standby and I never look at it, that's ok.

Re: Any good avionics installers / dealers for permit aircra

Hi Anthony

although he is only a supplier, John Dellafield at LXavionics may be able to recommend someone. He has always given me good service and a good price, and has been unstinting with free advice. He's based in Oxford.

Re: Spats

it's always worth fitting spats for efficiency, the extra weight will never negate the reduction in drag. On an RV just changing from the old style spat to the new design added 5kts. The only disadvantage is if you minimise the ground clearance for best fairing and least drag, expect to get damage o...

Re: Group rules - necessity for equal shares?

Richard the rules are whatever the group decides, you can give them away for nothing if that's what you all want. Whatever you decide, write it all down, including behaviour expected, sanctions for misbehaviour, financial arrangements, arrangements for a member leaving or the group folding, coverage...

Jim mold the speed bulge with modelling clay or glue on and carve and sand styrofoam. Make it as smooth as possible and cover with thin strips of parcel tape. This acts as a release agent. Then cover with three or more layers of glass cloth and resin. When cured pop it off, remove the clay/foam, cle...

Re: Leaving the circuit

aircraft in the circuit and aircraft being overtaken have right of way, it is the responsibility of those joining and/or overtaking to avoid them by following the rules of the air. I would stay in the circuit and leave on whichever leg is nearest your departure heading, in this case downwind. Stay a...

Re: Olympic Aispace Restrictions.

Before the birth of Atlas I put flight plans in via the German AIS. Registration is free and all the addressing is done for you, you even get an SMS message that all is well. It absolutely puts Afpex to shame. I didn't want to risk it not coping with R112 so have been using Sky Demon since the restr...

great service

I flew in to Turweston today for lunch but on landing it was obvious there was something wrong with the nosewheel, which was found to have a flat tyre. I had tools to remove the wheel but not to separate the halves. Despite it being lunchtime, Malcolm McBride found some and helped me extract the tub...

Without going through G-INO, my experience is that there are very few 150hp RVs. Interestingly, the LAA list includes some models of O- and IO-360 rated not above 168hp. Still, I don't begrudge those who can use cheaper fuel, I just hope that a 100LL replacement I can use appears sooner rather than ...

the "few" include most RVs, that's 250 at least.
