Re: Claim re contribution towards the cost of 8.33 kHz radio

I assumed that might be the case Nic and have thanked Bob, accordingly.

Re: Claim re contribution towards the cost of 8.33 kHz radio

Must have been some kind of divine intervention involved?

I have also now received an e mail advising that my refund is due next week. I almost cheered.

Claim re contribution towards the cost of 8.33 kHz radio

My claim was submitted last year and I'm still waiting for my modest refund.

Is there any likelihood of this turning up in the near future, ideally before this time next year?

I assume we are still expected to be patient - my patience is now wearing thin.

Re: Throat microphone

I was concerned about that aspect from the beginning Rob but am still thinking of having a go to see if the pros outweigh the cons. I might need three hands to cope with pressing it against my neck when talking? If I had another seat in the biplane, I could take a Russian along with me and he could ...

Throat microphone

Has anyone experience of throat microphones? I understand they work well ( allegedly ) in noisy environments so they might be an option for my open cockpit biplane project, in due course. I already have a couple of ex service leather helmets, but might use a newer helmet and adapt that. There are Am...

Re: Yaesu handheld PTT - source for mic socket

Many thanks Donald and despite visiting both these websites, I missed the mic sockets that showed up on your links!

I like the look of the cheaper version and will check it matches my mic. plug and then buy one.

Thanks again.

Yaesu handheld PTT - source for mic socket

Having read Brian's excellent recent item on how to add a PTT to a Yaesu radio, I'm struggling to find a suitable new lead-mounting mic socket.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Re: Radio: Antenna analysis

Many thanks Ian and I am grateful for your kind offer to help. Although I'm progressing steadily with my building, there is still some way to go before my "Boredom Fighter" will be advanced enough to make an appearance at an airfield. I bought the radio at this early stage to take advantage of the d...

Re: Radio: Antenna analysis

That's boosted my confidence John and thanks for all the advice. I hope to modify the antenna over the next week or two, to use the revised ferrite baluns and perhaps to make some new dipole elements - the originals are a fraction of an inch short, since I used the wire that was available to me at t...

Re: Radio: Antenna analysis

Many thanks Mike and John. The only reason I chose to try a "DIY" antenna was to improve the performance of my basic hand held radio, in what will be a very noisy open cockpit aeroplane - assuming I manage to finish building it. The design was found on the web and discussed in depth on the EAA forum...

Radio: Antenna analysis

I have a home made antenna, that is intended for use with a Yaesu hand held radio. Before connecting the antenna to the radio, I understand that it would be wise to use an Antenna Analyser to verify the integrity of my wiring and to check the "SWR" level. An SWR meter would be inadequate for this an...

Re: Handheld radio - New purchase & Licence application

Many thanks again Duncan and Jim. I'm beginning to get my head around all this, thanks to your advice and hope to go ahead shortly. A friend also has a Yaesu, but hasn't had chance to use it in anger yet.

No alternator in my biplane project, I'm afraid!

Re: Handheld radio - New purchase & Licence application

Much appreciated Duncan and the regulator looks perfect. Thought I'd seen references to 9 volts somewhere and a discussion about how to make a simple voltage reducer, but this is a better solution to that issue. I'll follow your advice regarding the PTT. Looks as though all the problems can be overc...
