New Strut forming in Cambs/Herts/Essex area

A small group of keen pilots are starting a strut based in the counties north if London and centred on Nuthamostead Airfield. The Grass Strippers as we are known are slightly different to a standard strut and are focused on enjoying grass roots flying. We aim to provide a flying club experience for ...

Spruce supply recommendations

I am looking to purchase a small amount of spruce - enough to build a rudder and fin for a chilton monoplane project. I have approached a few suppliers for quotes but I am looking for recommendations of where is a good source of quality spruce.

Thanks in advance,

Gary

Megajolt Ignition

I am interested in installing dual electronic ignition onto my Potez so as to replace the ageing distributor. I have read the article written in the LAA magazine by Steve Brown and I am incredibly interested in this system. The question I have however is whether or not the timing for the megajolt ca...

Re: Aldon Amethyst ignition system

Thanks for the info. I am very interested in electronic ignition and have been gauging Francis Donaldson's interest in dual electronic ignition, myself and another Potez owner are both hoping to install dual electronic Lightspeed ignition on our Potez engines using magnet sensors and magnets mounted...

Re: Building advice sought

Harry, thanks for the advice. I have recently attended one of his courses and found it both interesting and incredibly useful. It definitely confirmed in my mind the desire to build or restore a wooden aircraft as I had concerns over my lack of practical knowledge and hands on experience with wood. ...

Re: Building advice sought

I have noticed that Aircraft Spruce seems be relatively cheap for wood and seems to have a good variety of sitka and Douglas fir. Is this a reliable source?

Re: Building advice sought

I didn't think that the SD-1 could be deregulated as it's wing loading was too high I.e above 10kg/m2?

Re: Building advice sought

I have looked at the minisport and spoke to the uk rep but as far as I know it is yet to be approved in the UK. The luciole is another option but it uses some construction methods that I am unfamiliar with.

Is wood really so unavailable and if so is the end of building wooden aircraft near?

Building advice sought

Hello all, I am new to the forum although I have been a member of the LAA for a few years now. I am interested in finally starting a project, either a restoration project or a new build. I am interested in working with wooden aircraft as all experience gained will useful for maintaining my Jodel. I ...
