I would doubt that any twisting was gradual. If the flap horn has twisted, it must have exceeded its yield stress at some point. The rod reacts the whole aerodynamic moment of the flap about its hinge, so an excedance of flap limiting speed may have overloaded it (easily done in an RV-4). Have you a...

Some altimeters have a keep plate under the setting knob. If you remove the plate, you can pull out the knob and adjuct the altitude without changing the pressure setting (or vice-versa, I can't remember). If it's out more than a small amount, it probably means the capsule is leaking and in need of ...

Hi Tim, The LAA coaches have CRI (class rating instructor) ratings for SEP, which means they can instruct other than ab-initio (i.e pilots who already have a licence). The CRI course can be done in about a week if you meet the entry experience requirements. On-Track aviation at Wellesbourne have a l...

Also worth noting. If you complete the permit more than a month in advance, you are issued a permit fot thirteen months from the date of signing (i.e you get a max of one months credit from your unexpired permit)

It makes no difference if it's a UK PPL or a JAR PPL. If the class rating (SEP land) has expired, it can't be revalidated, you must do a renewal instead. This means doing an abbreviated licence skill test with an examiner. Until that has been done, you can only fly as Pu/t with an instructor or P1 s...

France and Italy have no particular formalities for homebuilts. Factory built permit aircraft may need permission. Avgas is reputedly unreliable in Italy, though I've never had any problems. With Schengen, it's possible to avoid the main airport beaurocracy - though Cuneo is a good option if you're ...

I keep on boarda Smith & Wesson 1st response knife, that has a spring loaded punch bolt and a serated edge knife for prying and cutting.

'Don't know how effective it would be in practice, but probably better than nothing.

Got it on Ebay.

May be worth trying Gloster Air Parts, who are now Hampshire based. They have some equipment for hire.

I use the Parker Rolo-flair tool which has the correct flare angle for AN fittings.

There have been cases on certified aircraft where the JC5a has acted as a moisture trap and actually caused corrosion. I've not found any clear guidance in that respect. The other type of wet rivetting is with a 2-part polysulphide like DeSoto PR-1422B2. This is used on fuel tanks and other areas wh...
