Re: Certified 8.33 vhf

Hi, don't consider my advice definitive (I am at least as fallible as every one else here), but I think only the IC-6E and IC-24E 8.33kHz versions are allowed in the UK. From memory it was more an acceptance than a formal examination and approval. There is more info here: http://www.icomuk.co.uk/New...

Re: If Carling designed an LAA aircraft?

Hi,

My comment regarding incompatabilty was in respect of currency for licencing, nothing else. A group A Shadow becomes a microlight if it is registered as SSDR and the hours only count on a microlight licence.

Re: 'Airdrome Aeroplanes' (USA)

Hi, that's quite a varied collection you have there, perhaps too big. As you say though, times have moved on and the previous lack of support in terms of getting information and parts/materials is so much better these days. A big decision would be do you want one or two seats? Your budget will also ...

Re: If Carling designed an LAA aircraft?

Hi Gary, don't apologise, although it is a while since we had any activity on this. The idea is now bumbling around in my head again as I have a late lunch. I do think that working within the restrictions presented by SSDR could result in an economical flying machine. Just a couple of initial points...

Re: 'Airdrome Aeroplanes' (USA)

Hi, there was what I assume was one of theirs in the builder's tent at the LAA Rally last year which I seemed to remember was Briggs & Stratton (or a similar industrial engine) powered. Perhaps it was one of those that didn't appeal to you? There's a picture here: http://grass-strip-aviation.blogspo...

Re: EAA Solidworks member benefit

Hi, Just responded to another post about Solidworks, am afraid I unwittingly created two threads the other being in Design. As I was keen, I renewed my lapsed EAA subscription, which when taking the electronic option for their magazine (not a patch on ours), was £36 a year. Once Brian has more infor...

Re: EAA Solidworks member benefit

Hi Gary, I haven't used Solidworks before, but have played around with AutoDesk Inventor which is comperable. Am not sure that Sketchup is as optimised for the sort of work I have in mind (I do have the Pro Version as I work for Trimble who bought it off Google years ago). I renewed my EAA subscript...

Re: Skies above Britain

Well, interesting as it was, episode one didn't do much for GA. What GA centred content it had was more about crashing than flying. I do hope we get some more posotive coverage in future episodes.

Re: Newbie to LAA Rally

Hi, Bring along anything suitable for the aircraft bits 'bring and buy' stall. Should really be called 'buy and bring' as it's quite normal to buy that irresistable bargain one year and bring it back the year after when you realise you don't need it after all! If you start by bringing then you remai...

Re: May I introduce myself - and solicit advice?

Hi, A couple of first steps; get to the local Strut meetings and get introduced to the local LAA community, try and find local RV owner/builders (G-INFO will help find them), also investigate local LAA inspectors. I'd venture to suggest that getting the right inspector on board is one of the most si...

EAA Solidworks member benefit

Hi, the EAA just announced a deal for their members to get a free student licence of Solidworks. See this: http://www.eaa.org/en/eaa/eaa-membership/eaa-member-benefits/solidworks-resource-center Anyone interested in aircraft design, or just sorting mods would find this a useful tool, it is becoming ...

Re: Builders forum

Hi Ian,

I did say that, the point was that having them in the forum database is better, both for ease of use and for the archive value. As far as I remember, phpBB has it as an option but it is not enabled here.
