Letov Sluka.

My Sluka (now in the SSDR category, was under the LAA ) employs a 90mm thin walled boom tube as the fuselage, at the front of which sits a Rotax 447. Many Sulks are now defunct due to radial cracking emanating from a forward attachment hole for the wing. I dye penetrant tested mine every year for an...

Re: wooden propeller tracking

If I might add - it it absolutely essential to get your torque wrench calibrated before use. Even a new one can be “out” by more than 10%. In addition, if you use lubricant on the hub bolt threads, this can lead to over-torquing, especially on fine threads.

Re: Converting plans/templates into AutoCAD files

I have reams of paper plans, some full size, for the Chasle Tourbillon - a single seat plywood covered aircraft. Too late in life now to build (it used to be on the PFA approved designs listing) but was advised not to take dimensions from them due to paper shrinkage etc. One of these was in build in...

Re: Wing Strut Bolts - Washers?

I would put the washers under the bolt heads in order to spread the load in the area, act as a bearing surface- if the hex heads “dig in” without them, they can tear the undersurface.

Re: Main Wheels

You haven’t mentioned wheel size, but, google “Trolley wheels”. There are many to choose from (with split rims) for ease of tyre changes. There was a French website - something like “ URL technologie” with everything you need for a build. Let us know how you get on.

Re: GA Fire extinguisher

Are there any stats on where fire in aircraft are most likely to occur - in the cabin, or under the engine cowling ? If under the cowling, I’d fit a discharge “ring main” within it and an extinguisher plug-in point in the cabin - no contamination in the cabin. In such a case you’d want the fire put ...

Re: Taylor Mono, Constant nose up attitude

My Sluka has an escutcheon plate to the side of the stick with a light knotted bungee, fixed for’d, running through it. Therefore, more knots means, erm, more knots.

Re: Flying Flea

That Scoutchel is very similar to my Letov Stuka (except that the struts on mine are the other way up and the Sluka is totally enclosed ). The Sluka “ladder” wing structure couldn’t be simpler to construct and if I could do the calcs I would build another using rectangular, radiused aluminium boom t...

Re: Sealant for fuel system pipe fittings

Loctite 592 is a thread “locking” agent, not a sealant, and right there you have highlighted the problem with residue left on threads after they are undone - how can you be absolutely sure that you are making up the joint again without getting some of the stuff into the system. Galling ought not to ...

Dominic - on your post previous to the last, you hadn’t made up your mind how you were going to vote. Now you appear quite vociferous towards those who questioned the validity of the award. In your latest post, put me right, (para5 I think) who do you say is in denial, TCT or the “heavy mob” ? As wi...
