I think that the only way a Nipper could be built would be to buy the fuselage frame and drawings from Nipper Kits and Components. However it would be crucial for anyone contemplating it to talk to LAA Engineering first and get the approvals issues clarified before committing money to
it.

A quick answer for Colin C, I did some work a few years back with a company in Washington that did Subi conversions. They used an electronic ignition system with 2 supplies and 1 plug, it was made by Electromotive, very neat and during my time we never had an issue with the ignition system, other t...

alternatives to the 'best VW conversion'.

the post on VWs was very interesting, and clearly the VW is the most popular 'non-aircraft' engine, but what other conversions are available? Looking at the engine/prop list I can see a few converted Subaru EA81 engines but is that it? I get he impression that in the UK we are a bit more conservativ...

I tried to get on the first (metalwork) course by ringing at lunchtime on the monday it was advertised, by which time it was fully booked. I just got offered a place on an additional course at the end of November which of course I jumped at. Am grateful to Brian and others involved for starting this...

Thanks Jamie, I had a message from Stuart MacConnacher to that effect too. Just had me a bit confused when I looked at it.

What designs may be homebuilt?

Hi, The thread about vw's just got me looking at the types thay have been used for, and I'm just a little confused by the information on the LAA web site Engineering page. We have a list of approved types and we have another list of homebuilts. There are a number of designs that are approved types a...

Rob,

that video looks like a good ad for the Leburg system! I know from our earlier discussions that Nigel had gone that direction too.

thanks for the info.

MDF - we seem to be thinking in parallel at the moment, I've been reading up on VWs too. I just bought a set of Peacock drawings from the LAA. Great Planes seem to be a good supplier of parts and kits. I'm currently thinking of building an 1834/1915 vw. Weight is an issue so it will be relatively si...

I will enquire but I get the impression that a rebuild/restoration is the simple way forward. I just got interested because my current project is coming to a conclusion (well I can see the light at the end of the tunnel).

PB & Rod, thanks for the info. I checked and fuselage frames are obtainable from N K & C and the rest can be built from drawings, but from what you say it would not be possible to register it unless it was used in a rebuild. I'm sort of intrigued though why many designs going back earlier than the N...

that's a question worth bringing up again - did you ever find out? It intrigues me simply because I have been a long-time fan of the Nipper.
