You are so right Mach 2. If you do not send your opinions to the CAA then they will do exactly what they want. I know its a pain to complete but if we do not swamp them with negatives about mode S, expect it to be MANDATORY 1st April 2012. All the data you need is on this website!!! :D So com...

I would suggest having a chat with your inspector he will prob just want to sign it off as approval for the installation has already been given.

John,
Connections are fine, Antenna is standard Europa fit in the tail.

Mike,
I can recieve Thames Radar no problem. Just not Gatwick APP. Transceiver is a good panel fit piece of kit.

Completely puzzled. :?

VHF Radio

Whilst flying our Europa yesterday I had trouble Picking up Gatwick Approach/Dir on 126.825, no problem with the comms from other aircraft just ATC, no problems with any other ATC unit either. My VHF is a panel mounted Narco Com810+ TSO, any thoughts anyone ? :?

Airspace Grab

Check out the consultation on the NATS website. It looks like theres a major change in the South East airspace. There will probably be no gain for general aviation. Only loss.

Mode S CAA meeting

Sorry I missed the meeting on Saturday, but do any attendees have any initial feed back for us . Was it informative ? Or did the CAA just turn up and say nothing and thus promise nothing, and will probably do what they want anyway seeing as they are not footing any bill .

I have the Skydrive unit fitted in my Europa. It only took about 2hrs to fit, plus a bit of glueing time. Since then we have had no instances of carb icing. Fitted probably only adds about 1 lb to the weight of the aircraft. No paperwork needed just get your inspector to sign it off. :D

If you go to the Mode S consultation doccument and go to Annex J the CAA have given a rather unusual exemption if you are building.
