Ratchets
I discovered ratchet spanners the other day ( as always behind the times Has anyone used them on aircraft and are they worth the money? Up to now my faithful combination spanners and socket set have done the job. If so what makes do people recommend?

lifts
Has anyone on here had experience of using lifts to get more aircraft in a hangar? I've looked online but since their website doesn't give prices I assume they are megabucks! There's a fair number of ingenious people in the LAA so has anyone adapted garage 2 posters or anything else to do the job. W...

Re: Magneto repairs
Further to the above it later turned out the external magnet was half strength and the internal timing was out by 26 degrees If you don't know the BTH it is unusual in that there is an external timing arm that swings the timing cam ring. Once this was adjusted things were a lot better. I did contact...

Magneto repairs
Last year I had problems with the BTH magneto on my Gipsy major. I sent it to a company called Ribblesdale automotive on the recommendation of a friend. It took them 9 weeks to do the job and on its return the points came loose on the first start. I rectified this and flew the aircraft briefly befor...

Re: 1BA turnbuckle barrel
I have a couple of ex Auster turnbuckles but don't know the thread. Can you give me the diameter of the threaded part and measure it for you?

Re: Taking the P (lead?)
I tried online and Soar come up as dissolved. When did you use them last? As to Deltair when I needed a new crank fitted due to poor installation by a CAA approved company before I got it, they wanted £8000 for labour on a job that took us 4 man days from stripped to prop turning

Taking the P (lead?)
I just had a quote to repair a BTH mag on a Gipsy Major from Deltair > Now remember this is plus parts postage and VAT....
£1200! I reckon that's £300 an hour.
Nice work if you can get it.

Re: Slick replacement for a BTH
All sorted. They want $5250 for a kit these days. By the time you've paid vat and customs duties that will be about the same in pounds. I can get a pair of slick mags for £3250 over here so that's a £1000 a side for a bracket and a simms coupling. I am investigating a system made in the UK and will ...

Slick replacement for a BTH
Does anyone have contact details for the slick conversion for BTH mags? I've tried online but not found much of use.

Re: BTH to electronic?
A slight change of plans and I am trying to do a trigger setup from scratch. I need to borrow an AG4 or SA4 magneto for testing if anyone can help. You will get it back undamaged and it does not need to be serviceable I could also use a spare earthing cap if anyone has a gash one.

Re: BTH to electronic?
I need a setup where a BTH mag was in a 4 cylinder vehicle of some kind that was positive earth. (Tractor perhaps?) That way I can buy a kit without the supplier having a wobbly as soon as I mention aircraft! Anyone on here into classic vehicles?
