Re: Grey Aviation

For what it's worth a new member to the Flyer forum 'LAA Rally Man' joined today. Within his (very informative) post was this bit*. So lets start with what the LAA Rally is all about. Its a Rally - not an air show or a trade show. It's for the LAA members and it's meant to provide a focal point and ...

Re: Grey Aviation

What exactly is exciting enough about GA to attract youngsters anyway? Our chosen hobby isn't exactly flash enough or affordable for many, how would you go about attracting new blood? I do have one idea. How about free entry for all Air Cadets? Make the offer to all units across the UK in time for t...

Re: Tracey Curtis-Taylor

Brian. A valid point, GPS is now the norm and whether navigation awards have any place is perhaps for discussion another day but the question I posed earlier remains unanswered. Did the committee know that the aircraft was fitted with GPS/tablet? If you prefer not to reply here a yes or no via PM wo...

Re: Tracey Curtis-Taylor

Brian. Forgive me but I can't make sense of this. To a degree yes, people became upset when the 'non-solo' status was revealed but was not the LAA award given for a feat of navigation? If the award was made in the full knowledge that little to no navigational skill was involved, why? If the GPS fit ...

Re: Tracey Curtis-Taylor

Brian, thanks for taking the time to reply. All I really wanted to know was how these things are discussed in the Sywell bunker  and what kind of attention this had been given since the truth came out. It's reassuring to know that you can discuss this semi-informally rather than over a five-co...

Re: Tracey Curtis-Taylor

I don't want this turning into another PPRuNe-like thread. That's a dark and nasty place and there are reasons I left it after many years of membership. Nor am I looking to point the finger of blame. There is no blame, people were hoodwinked. However.... My own take is that at the time the LAA, like...

Re: Tracey Curtis-Taylor

Hi Paul, not sure whether you received this reply which I sent you by e-mail on 29th June. Hello Steve No, I had not. No sign of it in my inbox, spam or deleted emails so it appears never to have arrived. At no point have I suggested that the award was made in anything other than good faith however...

Re: Tracey Curtis-Taylor

I emailed Steve Slater over two weeks ago asking if, in light of emerging details of TCT's dupliciity we (the LAA) are to reconsider awarding her the Bill Woodhams Trophy.I received a reply from one of his colleaugues saying he would contact me after the weekend. Despite sending a follow-up email fi...

Re: Tracey Curtis-Taylor

I think that's splitting hairs somewhat. Her overall claims on these flights have been 'Bird In A Biplane' (pass me the bucket) "solo" with the latter going toward the drama and difficulty of the whole thing. The fact that she misled everyone taints the whole deal. I'm left with the impression that ...

Re: Tracey Curtis-Taylor

Chris. I think we all agree now that TCT pulled the wool over our eyes and is getting her just desserts (or desert if you count the latest crash). I disagree with you on the question of withdrawing the awards though. Not because I want to point the finger at the LAA or any other organisation but sim...

Re: Tracey Curtis-Taylor

I think some people simply don't want to read about it here because the topic has been discussed so much on the other sites. The answer is simple, just don't read the thread.

I agree that it is a subject for the LAA forum for the reason that 'we' gave the award.

I'm sure the owner of (the remains of) a certain R44 won't feel so sympathetic.

Re: Tracey Curtis-Taylor

Coincidentally I emailed Steve Slater about this last week (he was out of the office) and I await his/the LAA's reply with interest. To allow her to keep the Bill Woodhams award would be an endorsement of her behaviour, something I (an LAA member) object to very strongly. There are enough charlatans...

As a homebuild I assume VAT was paid on the timber, brackets, fabric etc.
