Re: Electronic conspicuity article from the Feb edition of t
I have had several replies to my email and note that the RV chat site has a lot of dialogue. What 'RV chat site'? URL please. The PilotAware forum has a thread on this subject too. http://forum.pilotaware.com/index.php/topic,1172.0.html Comments on that forum are pretty well always technically corr...

Re: Is installing a CO detector a mod?
Agree with the above. Mine is a B&Q item stuck to the parcel shelf with Blu Tak. It screams loudly when tested, it's been there five years, flashes a green light every few seconds to indicate it is still alive. Another agreement here. However... I have a modern domestic one that takes 2 x AA batter...

Re: Nav lights on my Emeraude
When checking out an LED installation be sure to check for radio interference. I have fitted LED bulbs to my existing aircraft light fittings: these are intended for aircraft use. I've found that they cause radio interference that can get so bad that it breaks through the squelch level on the radio....

Re: Flarm
If you have a definite, pressing and immediate need to see gliders then I guess PowerFlarm is the expensive answer. However... PilotAware is gaining a form of Flarm detection. http://forum.pilotaware.com/index.php/topic,885.0.html This is in addition to all the PilotAware/P3i, ADS-B, Mode S and Mode...

Re: Hand held radio.
Well this is the LAA so homebuilding is allowed. It's a hand-held so it's allowed in a certified aircraft as carry-on equipment! 8.33khz spacing is nothing to do with poor performance. If your display is showing the 'normal' 25khz spaced frequency then it is operating in normal 25khz mode. A...

Radio (and Transponder) replacement.
I'm going to replace my aircraft's com radio to comply with the new sky we are getting next year. Seeing as the best option seems to be the Trig TY91 and that will involve rejigging the whole stack I will change the transponder to the Trig TT21 at the same time. Given the number of radio and transpo...

I don't bother with the will - just my solicitor's business card. Less weight...mikeblyth wrote:Credit card and will
Given the price of Avgas and landings I've taken to carrying a backup credit card.

Re: Mode S Transponder checking?
Mode C not mode S but... I get good contact with every facility I work except Newquay - they can never see my mode C returns. Been like that for the past 3 or 4 years. Life's too short to worry about it as I only go down that way two or three times a year. I'll probably Mode S'ify soon anyway. Be in...

Tracey who?
Don't have much truck with people who can't even spell their own name properly.
It is Tracy - no 'e'.
After Spencer Tracy.
Spelling it with an 'e' makes her look like a graphics plagiarist.

Re: Scaling up scaled down aircraft
I seem to recall that the justification for the 90% scale of the Spitfire Mk26B was that to build it 100% size would mean it would cost several times the price because so much needs to be beefed up to take the extra loads the extra wing area, weight etc imposes on the structure. I'm reasonably certa...

Re: Medical self-declaration
This will probably be regarded as scope-creep, but not too much, I think. I am just wondering about the potential insurance implications of self cert medicals. If I have a prang and am knocked out, suffer concussion etc. is my insurance underwriter likely to try to use that as proof I might have had...

Re: Solid or Pneumatic tailwheel
Had a solid one on our Luscombe when we bought it. When we moved it to Sleap with hard but bumpy / seamy runways and taxiways it was very loud and very bumpy. Also tracked seams in the runway like a stylus. Changed to a pneumatic Maule assembly and it was easier handling, quieter, smoother and seeme...

Re: Circa 1958 Emeraude C90 generator no longer charging
Last time I needed a dynamo fixed I took it to an auto electrical overhaul place. They stripped, cleaned, checked (and fixed) continuity of all coils (fixed and rotating), cleaned and lubed bearings/bushes, turned the commutator in a lathe to put a nice new smooth finish on it, oh yes, and replaced ...
