Re: Learning - Fabric - Help!?
Stephen, I may have some fabric, tapes and wax cord left over from my fairly recent fuselage and rudder recover project. Let me know what you may need and I can have a look. Unless you know someone with the paints and dopes you require you will find you can only purchase 1 US Gallon cans of what you...

Re: Learning - Fabric - Help!?
Stephen, Do you know what your aircraft is covered in? Ceconite or something else? I ask as it is best to stick with the same covering process as used on the wings and airframe. I can send you the Ceconite methods guide which contains very good information and should allow you to cover a rudder with...

Re: Ciovid -19 and Permit Revalidation Check Flight
I potentially had the same issue a few weeks ago, so e-mailed LAA Engineering about this.
Their reply was they would allow the permit renewal test flight paperwork to be submitted without the MAUW climb test "for now".

Re: C90 / O-200 operating costs
Brian says it all really. At worst case consider a professionally rebuilt C90 or O-200 to cost £15K plus if everything starts to wear out. If you have 1500 hours left on the engine that is good. It is almost new! I purchased a new set of cylinders for my A65 for about £4K 6 years when I found three ...

Re: Welding Question
Best e-mail LAA engineering for a definitive answer however I would suggest it would likely be okay for non critical/non-structural parts.

Re: UK Import charges
Craig, I think you always have to pay VAT but aircraft parts are usually exempt from Import duty. I got this from HMRC about 7 years ago so things may have changed: "To import to simplified end use, you do not require prior authorisation. Declaring goods to CPC 40 00 028 at import is your authorisat...

Re: 9.7mm hand reamer
Richard,
Do you mean a 9.7 mm reamer or a 3/8" one?
I have the latter you can borrow.

Optical tacho
Does anyone have an optical tacho I can borrow for a few days as I would like to check the calibration of my mechanical tacho?
I am referring to the type you can point at the back of a prop from the comfort of one's aircraft cabin.
Happy to pay postage etc.

Re: Spraying my aircraft
Bill, When you say "spray in my garden" I presume you don't actually mean that? I assume you have a tent or similar to protect your spray job from flying insects? If not your paintwork will get covered in insects etc. and ruin your work. Also spraying in the open air is a challenge if you want to ap...

Re: Travel to airfield for self maintenance. Acceptable or not?
Personally, I would consider a trip to my local airfield to carry out essential preventative work on my engine as "work". Work isn't specified as where you go to earn a salary... In the next week or so I will be doing similar to inhibit/protect my Cont. A65 as best I can. The engine hasn't run since...

Re: Covid-19 Lockdown
I think it is more to do with complying with the spirit of the advice/legislation and also public perception. Jo Public may wonder why a small light aircraft is flying overhead when the rest of the country has been told to avoid unnecessary journeys except for specific purposes etc. Where I live the...
