Re: Dual battery setup for Leberg ignition
Hi Ian, I am installing a dual Leburg system on my Nipper and have a few comments that might prove useful: My original intention was to use a pair of LiFePO4 batteries but I have fallen back on gel cells for several reasons. The main driver is that a gel cell system (including alternator) is very ne...

Re: Repeal of stolen airspace LAA AGM motion by Zoom 18th Oct.
While I understand and thoroughly agree with the intent of the proposer's motion, I wish it had been better worded. Strictly interpreted it makes little sense. The meaning of ATZ is set out in Article 5 of the Air Navigation Order (ANO) 2016 and is a volume of airspace around an airfield 2000ft abov...

Wheel Hub dimensions
I've been making up some wheel hubs to be able to change my Nipper from the 3 1/2 x 4.95 tyres (made from unobtainium) to easily obtained and much, much cheaper 4.00 x 4 (even from Tost!). However I've come across an interesting issue regarding the hub sizes which I hope the forum may be able to sol...

Briggs and Stratton article
Could anybody direct me to the LAA mag article issue that described a reduction system for a B&S engine conversion.
Thanks in advance

Re: Converting plans/templates into AutoCAD files
Mike is correct, EAA membershio does come with a free Solidworks licence. Solidworks and Inventor are top level CAD systems and you can do splendid work once you've become accustomed to their operation but that's not a trivial learning process. I'm an EAA member but I use Inventor because that's the...

Re: Main Wheels
Well that seemed to work, several previous attempts failed - Gremlins or finger trouble, the truth may never be found! I have schemed a hub for a 400x4 tyre to replace the obsolete size on my Nipper. The old size has been quoted at ~ £450 each unit  and no inner tubes available. 400x4 was an ...

composite system compatible with E5 mogas
I've been searching for a composite system compatible with E5 mogas in order to lay up a fuel tank. The most likely candidate I've found so far is Spruce and Speciality part number Part Number: 01-01109. A vinyl ester system. I'd be interested if anybody has any suggestions or experience with this p...

Re: Air Courtage - "LAA insurance"
I took out Air Courtage LAA insurance this year mainly because it allowed me to tailor the cover to my needs. I have a Taylor Mono in long term build (very long term!) effectively in storage in a hangar with my Nipper which is 'engine off' for a Leburg fit. I was able to insure both hulls for ground...

Re: DHC1 Chipmunk--Electric Starters?
I was a member of a flying group operating a Chipmunk quite some years ago and it most certainly had an electric starter which was run from the battery situated behind the cockpit. The battery was, however, somewhat 'weak' and mainly served to keep the weight and balance within limits. So we resorte...

Re: Leburg Honda alternator adapter
John,
Thanks for the tacho pulse information, very useful. It looks as if it is a conditioned version of one of the Hall detector outputs. I have to convert that to a 4 to 20mA drive to match the meter.

Re: Handheld radio - New purchase & Licence application
A smidge more information which may prove useful when using this sort of power adaptor: The Yaesu supplied car adaptor is marked as 9.5 volts. Power converters like the one suggested typically require 2 volts across them to operate properly so your aircraft supply should be a minimum of 11.5 volts. ...

Re: Leburg Honda alternator adapter
And another thing! :) Does anybody have the crimping tool for the Molex connectors they would loan? The cheapest tool I can find is the RSonline one at ~ £150 (inc VAT) which is a tad steep for just a few connections. Not only but also; can anybody tell me the exact format of the tacho pulse from th...
